Advantages: Gorgeous smell. Nice packaging.
Disadvantages: It is expensive.
This is my first fragrance review, so be nice to me! As I'm on a limited budget at the moment, I usually opt for the cheaper kinds on the market and just lately I've been buying perfume from Avon. I like Avon, but there are other perfumes out there I like better!
On my birthday last year I was given a bottle of 'Opium' (from Yves Saint Laurent) which I was chuffed to bits with! As I was given this as a gift I'm unsure of the exact price, but you can get it for around the £25 - £30 mark for a 30ml bottle, depending on where you shop.
PACKAGING
<><><><>
The perfume comes in a brown and gold bottle. The glass bottle itself containing the perfume is covered with a brown plastic covering with a circle in the middle. The circle contains the name of the perfume with the words 'Secret de parfum' underneath. The rest of the plastic outer covering is etched with squiggly leaf like marks all around it. Thee lid is easily removed where you will find the nozzle to spray on the perfume.
On the bottom of the bottle is the Yves Saint Laurent brand name and the volume of perfume in the bottle (1 fl oz -30ml - 74% vol).
THE PERFUME
<><><><><
Now onto the best bit - the perfume! You can see the perfume through the circle on the bottle. It is a very light brown/tan in colour to look at.
The aroma is quite strong to the smell, but don't let this put you off. I find the aroma is quite spicy and has a bit of a woody smell to it. With the blend of the spicy and woody smell to it, it really does hit your nostrils! When people walk past you, you will certainly get a waft of this perfume up your nostrils. Opium always reminds me of the Arabic markets with the different Eastern aromas of spices, foods and Arabic smells!
Some people may not like perfume like this, but I really like it. The aroma reminds me of the Far East. With the bottle being the rustic brown it is, and the aroma, it has a very Eastern appeal to it. It smells very rustic and quite a strong flowering smell. It has a very Oriental, Spicy feel about it.
When spraying the perfume on your person, you only need 1 squirt per wrist (or even on 1 wrist and rub them together) 1 on either side of your neck. You see, as this perfume is quite powerful 1 squirt is all you need.
Once the perfume has been applied, I have found that this lasts a good few hours. You will not need to re-apply for at least 5 or 6 hours. And even after all this time you can still smell the perfume.
I know I've said throughout this review that this perfume is quite strong and powerful, but this is meant in the best possible way. As the smell is just so nice, once applied to to the skin it smells really nice. I have had people walk past me before who have been wearing Opium and it really isn't as off-putting as some perfumes are. It's a very pleasant smell.
SUMMARY
<><><>
Compared to other perfumes, this is really nice. Okay, so it is expensive, but a only a small amount is required and it will last for a good while.
In summary, it's very nice, very sexy and very appealing!
Enjoy!
Thanks for reading!
