I am obsessed with nice smells, from my deodorant to my perfume I just love a strong scent that lasts most of the day.
Once I have my make-up on, my hair done and wearing something nice, the last thing I love to do is squirt myself with a delicious smelling perfume.
When I look for a perfume I absolutely hate how a sales assistant will come over and give you several different perfumes sprayed on to that tiny bit of card. Yes it smells amazing on the card but each perfume reacts differently to the individual. A perfume has to warm to your skin and even then, the same perfume can smell like a complete different one on someone else.
A few years ago I was in House of Fraser with my mum and while she was doing her usual (going through ever moisturiser and eye creams) I went to look at the YSL counter. The only thing I had ever had from YSL is the Touché Éclat (which I adore).
I had seen an advert for the new YSL perfume called Elle and really wanted to try it. On the front of the YSL counter they had a display of Elle. A soon as I smelt it I immediately loved it and when the woman on the counter wasn't looking I bathed myself in it. (I am a monkey for doing this).
A fragrance for an unpredictable and unique woman, in tune with her every desire.
Unpredictable and unusual, Elle is the very essence of Yves Saint Laurent femininity. Elle is the incarnation of a unique and up-to-the-minute chic style. Free to choose, rich in contrasts, strengthened by its contradictions... Elle experiences its passions, all of its passions, fully, without concession. Elle fulfils all of its desires...
YSL Description of Fragrance
A fresh, colourful and infinitely feminine opening of cedar wood gives this fragrance its luminosity. A hint of lychee offers its boldness and peony delicately softens it. Last but not least, pink berries combined in the middle notes with freesia create a fusion of olfactory opposites.
A fragrance bursting with femininity and audaciousness where floral and woody notes blend and mingle together.
Peony - Pink Berries - Patchouli.
After a few minutes of wearing YSL Elle it began to warm to my skin. Now I cannot describe exactly what it smells like as like I've stated every perfume smells different on each person, but on me Elle has a musky floral smell with a hint of spices and ginger.
Whilst wearing this I have has so many compliments on how lovely I smell and since buying my first bottle have gone through 3 more.
Every now and then I give YSL Elle a brake and change to a different perfume but I always end up going back to it and adoring it all over again.
As for the bottle, well it's beautiful.
It comes in a rich purple bottle with a gold bit on the front with YSL in purple engraved on it. It has an expensive elegant look and stands pride of place on my dressing table.
With any perfume I wouldn't recommend you reading this then go out and buy it, but I do suggest next time you're looking for a perfume try YSL Elle. Don't be hasty (as there is nothing worse than buying a new perfume then getting home and realising you don't like it). Don't be shy to ask for a sample, if they haven't got one then give your wrists a spray and leave it to warm on you while you carry on shopping. Only then will you know it is the one for you.
If once you've decided you love it just like me, then you are in for a treat.
The scent lasts all day and you don't need to use a lot, so the bottle lasts for ages.
It's the perfect perfume to use day or night.

Yves Saint Laurent
Elle Eau De Parfum 50ml, Was £ 56.00, Now £ 50.40
Hope this helps!
This perfume has lasted me 3 years and i still have at least a quarter of the 50ml bottle left. It carries a sweet and not overpowering smell which lasts all day with just a few sprays. Even though, it is getting more expensive as time goes by, it is still worth it. With Yves Saint Laurent, you know that you are getting fantastic quality because it is such a high named, well-known brand across the World. I would say that this is possibly the most beautiful YSL perfume because i literally wear it every day. It is the type of perfume which people ask "Ooh, what are you wearing? It's lovely", where you then say that it is Elle by YSL (of course). I then purchased a 50ml bottle for my mother because she loved it. It is a great gift, because it lasts so long and smells beautiful.
At a recent trip to boots I saw that they had slashed the price of YSL elle to £31.33 from £47. I had tried the perfume before and I had liked that the smell was quite intense. A 50ml bottle for £31.33 was really good in my opinion as YSL is a couture brand.
The bottle is made of glass and the lid is a gold coloured block. The famous YSL logo is embossed on two sides of the rectangular bottle. This side has an transparent glass and the other two sides are coloured a light purple. This is the eau du toillete version. The eau du parfum is a dark pink colour. The perfume is a white liquid and it is easy to see how much is left as the bottle is transparent. I have the 50ml version and this stands nice and tall but not too tall. The 30ml version is much smaller and looks like a miniature perfume in comparison. The bottle looks expensive and would look good on the dressing table.
The first time I sprayed the perfume there was an initial smell of lychee's. I fell in love with the perfume because the smell of the lychee's. On my skin there is the initial lychee smell and then it settles and becomes a little musky. The sweet and fruity lychee smell becomes a little spicy and musky after about 2-3 hours. The change in the smell is not one I like because I prefer the sweet and fruity smell as opposed to the spicy and musky smell. I thought that the smell would stay the same but with time it changes and becomes warmer. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but I like the lychee smell and I didn't want it to change. The smell also becomes flowery in the middle before turning musky and spicy.
The scent has a good staying power and lasts a good 7 hours before fading. I have worn the perfume to work and I have found that at the end of the day there is trace of the perfume. I do think though that the perfume may be better for formal evening wear rather than an everyday fragrance because it is quite intense, deep and musky.
The perfume is available as an edp and edt in 30ml, 50ml and 75ml sizes. It can be found in all major department stores and high street chemists. It is in my opinion more of a premium branded product as it is YSL so it isn't very easy to get the perfume at a discount price. The edt is on offer at boots for £31.33 at the moment.
I would have preferred the perfume to be lighter and sweeter so that I can wear it for work as this was my intention but I will now use it as an evening wear perfume .
My first introduction to the world of YSL fragrances was with the incredible Young Sexy Lovely. After falling in love with that, I knew I had to check out the other ones. This is just as good, if not better! The scent is spicy and floral and compliments me well. You only need a couple of sprays with this one as the scent is quite strong. I keep buying this one as it last quite a while. I highly recommend it! I got my sister onto this one, and my best friend.I've had a few compliments when wearing this too! Well worth it!!
As Christmas was approaching last year my mum asked me what I would like as a present. Normally she is very inspired and buys me unexpected but lovely gifts. However last year my father had been taken ill and so she could barely get to the shops as she needed to be at home with him and her normal shopping trips were cancelled. I actually did most of her shopping online for her but she wanted to buy my present herself. I told her that I needed some new perfume and that I fancied a change from the one I was currently using. I knew her local chemist stocked a large range of fragrance so I knew she would have a nice choice.
On Christmas morning I received a very attractive gift box containing Yves Saint Laurent Elle Eau de Parfum spray and also a small shower gel and body lotion. I have no idea how much this gift set cost. A 30ml EDP spray seems to vary in price greatly at the moment and I have found it listed online from about £30.
"A fragrance for an unpredictable and unique woman, in tune with her every desire"- where do manufacturers get these taglines from?
The spray was presented in a 30ml size. The bottle is a rather vivid cerise pink with a gold coloured piece on the front and back with the letters YSL cut out. Although the colour is quite bright the bottle is a rather boring rectangular shape and so is not particularly feminine or attractive. However the simple design does mean that it is easy to hold when spraying and it sits nice and firmly on the bathroom shelf, it is not prone to falling over. The square cap is easy to remove but fits securely over the spray when it is not in use. I think the bottle looks a trifle old fashioned but I know a lot of people like the clean lines, I think it is the colour that puts me off.
On first spraying the perfume I was immediately surprised that the scent didn't appear to be very strong. There was a distinct woody smell but this was lifted by something else that seemed fresh but not particularly floral. On searching the manufacturer's website they state that the fragrance contains cedar wood, lychee and peony which would account for the fact that I couldn't quite decide if it was fruity or floral.
It didn't seem to take very long to mature on my skin and I decided that I quite liked the fragrance I was left with. There seemed to be a slightly more floral tone which wasn't too sweet after a while which I really liked. I couldn't pinpoint the fragrance but the manufacturers claim it is freesia which may account for why I like it as Freesias have always been my favourite flower and I love their scent.
Anyone who has read my other fragrance reviews will know that I hate musky scents as I take on the aroma of next doors Tomcat when I wear anything with even a hint of musk. I was very pleased when I realised that this delicate fragrance had no musky notes at all.
The only problem I have discovered with this fragrance really is the lack of longevity. I will spray it on in the morning, before work, and by lunchtime I don't think there is a lot of fragrance left. I know that it can be hard to smell scents on yourself after a while but I have asked my husband and my daughter if they can still smell it after a few hours and they say they can't. (I am not obsessive; I only asked them with regards to writing this review!). I don't carry perfume with me at work but I work in an environment where we are all in quite close proximity to each other and I like to feel that I smell pleasant as it soon becomes noticeable when someone doesn't!
Overall I would say that this is a nice, fresh, feminine fragrance. I use it as a day scent but it is probably not rich enough to make a good evening scent. It has hints of floral without being sickly sweet and it is just a shame that it doesn't last longer on the skin as it is not the cheapest of fragrances. I am glad mum chose this for me and if I see it on offer I may treat myself to another bottle.
Like most women I love perfume and I am always happy to receive a bottle as a present. I tend not to stick with the same fragrance, but like to try out different brands.
Last Christmas I was given a bottle of 'Elle' by Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL as it is now much more commonly known. I must admit that this was one bottle of perfume I did not open and try straight away. I had the idea in my head that YSL tended to manufacture perfume for the more mature lady.
Last week I decided it was time to give it a try. It was part of a gift set, which included body lotion. The packaging was lovely and the bottle itself really appealed to me. The bottle is a pretty, dark pink, colour, and the YSL logo is etched out on a gold coloured metal.
When I sprayed the perfume I immediately got a distinct aroma of ginger and wood, and this then settled down to a slightly flowery, gingery fragrance. I found that this perfume did take quite a good few minutes to settle down on my skin.
This is a fragrance that I will probably wear in the evenings, if I am going out somewhere. I do not think I would use it regularly during the day.
Despite my original opinion that YSL would be more suited to the more mature lady, I now have to admit that I got it wrong. This is a lovely fragrance for evenings and I will continue to use it.
I found that although I only sprayed a small amount, friends did ask what perfume I was wearing. The fragrance does last for a good few hours.
I have had a look around and have found that YSL is quite expensive and for a 50ml bottle it can cost around £55. This does vary from store to store. It is not as widely available as some other perfume brands but it can easily be purchased in Frasers, John Lewis, Debenhams and some larger Boots stores.
I first came across this fragrance in 'Elle' - the magazine as a sample. The scent immediately became my favourite. It has exactly what I look for in a perfume. It has woody notes of patchouli, vetiver and cedar, rose, freesia, litchi all of which give it a distinct aroma. The main words throughout this review will be modern, classic and sexy - because that's exactly what this perfume is!
The bottle is hot pink with gold detailing. The YSL logo is carved out in an elegant gold bar. The bottle represents the perfume - it is simple, classic and at the same time sexy and modern. The rectangular shape and the hot pink bottle make it contemporary.
Most of the time I find Yves Saint Laurent fragrances too mature for me, but 'Elle' - whilst still having a strong, solid base - seems a little more modern. The marketing campaign with Coco Rocha has definitely tried to portray a younger, fresher, more modern yet quite masculine and strong image. This is a perfect perfume for the fall/winter season. I look for more fruity and floral scents in the summer and 'Elle' can be a bit too heavy or too strong for some. However it is not completely unwearable in the summer or spring.
The Lasting Power:
The perfume lasts a long time. When you spray it at first, the scent is quite strong and more 'masculine'. Throughout the day, as it evaporates, the more feminine, womanly and floral notes shine through.
This is one of my favourite perfumes. Although at £50 - £60 per 100ml it is not cheap I definitely think it is worth the price as it lasts you a long time and the fragrance is suitable for most situations (work, date, going out etc.). Plus you can look around for special offers or discounts - Boots usually have offers on gift sets at Christmas.
Saint Laurent was born in a place in Algeria in 1936. He was only just 17 when he won the first prize
in a contest which was organized by the wool industry to design a cocktail dress. A year later, in
1954, he went to fashion school and got to know Christian Dior and went to work for him. When
Dior died in 1957, Saint Laurent was 21 years of age and in charge of the Dior couture house. In
1961 he and Pierre Berge started his own brand with the now famous YSL initials. In 1964 Yves Saint
Laurent came with his first fragrance on the market.
Yves Saint Laurent Elle perfume was introduced in 2007. This fragrance was created by perfumers
Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp. According to the manufacturer it is an unpredictable and unique
scent. It is a combined scent of flowers and woody notes. The ingredients for this fragrance are
peony, berry, litchi, patchouli, freesia, jasmine, vetiver and amber.
When you see the bottle of perfume you would suspect that it is pink, but appearances are
deceiving. It is colorless. If you spray the perfume it smells really like flowers, but after about fifteen
minutes the smell changes towards a more spice and wood scents. You can still smell the floral,
but not it is not so overpowering anymore. I would describe the scent as a warm aroma, which the
flowers make it also a bit fresher.
The bottle is long shaped and has graphic strong lines. The glass is pink but still transparent. On the
bottle is the logo in gold metal. The cap is square and golden in color. Under the cap you will find
the spray, which is also gold. The pink and gold together with the graphic lines, give the bottle a
feminine, elegant look. Yves Saint Laurent Elle comes in three sizes, 30ml, 50ml and 90ml. Besides a
fragrance the line also consists of a shower gel and body lotion.
A nice scent, perhaps a little too sweet for me, but the real sweetness is gone after about half
an hour. You still recognize something of jasmine, but I find a pleasant fragrance. The wood
spice scent stays really present which I like. You don't have to spray a lot of this perfume and
one spray is sufficient. Also the scent stays with you for quite a long time. I'd say worth a try.
I received this as a gift and although not my favourite perfume it does make a nice change from my usual perfumes. As it is by YSL it obviously looks good on my dressing table. It comes in an attractive tall glass pink bottle with the gold YSL logo on it. The femininity of the bottle reflects the floral fragrance it contains.
The top notes are lychee and peony with a hint of warm patchouli. I find it lasts fairly well although I also used the body lotion so would expect that helps make the fragrance last that bit longer too.
The fragrance is certainly very girlie and I tend to wear it during the day.. It is a good job that it lasts for a reasonable time as I do find the bottle too heavy to carry around in my handbag.
It is available from department stores and chemists and of course online. It costs around $30 but do shop around and compare prices.
Overall I find this a nice fragrance for when you want to feel very feminine. I like it a for a change have been delighted with my gift.
My bottle came in a gift set but it is also available in 50ml, 90ml & a 3x15ml purse spray .
I bought this perfume last year for my mum, and like it so much, I bought it for myself as well.
I first smelt the perfume in a magazine, on one of those flaps that you get in fashion magazines, and I thought it smelt really nice, although nothing out of the ordinary. however, my mum asked for it for her birthday, so i bought it. When the perfume was sprayed from the bottle, it was far stronger than the magazine, and I like it instantly.
A big turn-off for many people may be the price. However, I think it the perfume is quite good value - it's very strong (although not so strong that you have to wait a while until you go out), but it's strong enough to last for the whole day. One squirt on the neck seems to be enough, and possible one on the wrist, but any more than two, and it can be very strong. It really does last a long time - I remember putting it on one morning, and that evening at about 9pm, a man on the bus told me how nice I smelt!
Both my mum and I have had many compliments about the smell, and all of my friends who have it seem to say similar things. The smell is really nice, and not too sweet, too spicy, too flowery or too watered down - it's just right. It smells quite feminine, but if you aren't the most feminine of women, I wouldn't let this turn you off the perfume.
Another great thing about the perfume is that you can wear it any time of day, and it's appropriate for any occasion. However, as it lasts so long you don't have to think about reapplying it every hour, like the majority of cheaper perfumes
The bottle of the perfume is really nice, a good size (although they do a variation of sizes) and looks classy without looking too brash and showy. The only problem I have found is that the lid of the bottle isn't very secure, but as I don't carry it around, this doesn't really matter. The box it comes in is also really nice, quite shiny, and would look nice on any dressing table
All in all, this perfume is fabulous, and I would recommend it to anyone
One of my favorite perfumes is Yves Saint Laurent: Elle. This perfume was released by YSL in October 2007, and seems to be a firm favorite still now.
This perfume is a very feminine one, which has a lovely fragrance, with woody and floral scents in it. It is quite delicate and soft, yes is still a distinct scent that I find lasts all day with just a few squirts on hotspots in the morning. I find that this perfume is great for wearing in the day or evening, and many people have commented on how nice I have smelt whilst wearing this perfume.
The base notes of this perfume are: Patchouli, Vetiver and Ambrette. The middle notes are: Pink Berries, Jasmine and Freesia and the top notes are: Peony, Lychee and Citron. All these blend together perfectly to make a wonderful, unique smelling perfume that is great for all seasons and all weather. There is definatley a sweet aroma to the smell of the perfume, but not so sweet that you feel sick when you are smelling it. Obviously, as with all perfumes, you get used to the smell and can no longer smell the perfume on you after a while, but people have still noticed the smell of the perfume many hours after I have put it on, and even after smoking a cigarette or two, the perfume can still be smelt, so the staying power of this perfume is pretty good I would say.
The bottle is made of glass and is a nice, light pink color which is tranparent so you can see how much liquid is inside. There is a gold printing of the Yves Saint Laurent symbol, and the words Elle and Eau Da Parfum are also printed on the bottle in gold writing. The lid is the same color as the whole bottle and easily pops off to reveal the gold spritzer. The lid stays on well enough that I can just pop this perfume in my bag, and have no worries of the lid coming off. The box is a nice pink color too, and is made from a ribbed style cardboard. I found the box didn't fare so well in my handbag, so I just started carrying the bottle around, although I had hardly a need to as I didn't need to reapply the perfume throughout the day.
I have quite sensitive skin, and sometimes perfumes can bring my skin up in a bad reaction or rash, but I have had no reaction from this perfume, so I think most people will be ok with using it, unless of course you are allergic to any of the notes in the perfume. If you have really sensitive skin, or have had reactions to perfumes before, it would be best to check a small amount on your skin first. Luckily, this is what testers were (partially) made for!
The bottle lasts for a good couple of months, even with daily use, as the scent really does last through the day. The only time I have reapplied it has been when I am going out in the evening. The perfume comes in a variety of sizes, I usually get the 90m which is the largest size, but there is also a 30ml and a 50ml bottle available. I usually pay around £35 - £40 for a bottle, but you can get it in gift sets nearer to christmas which also come with an Elle scented body lotion. The body lotion is a great way to layer the smell, especially when combined with the perfume itself.
You can buy Elle in Boots, Superdrug, The Perfume Store, Debenhams and on many places online. It is worth having a look around to see which stores are doing the best price or deal, as prices do seem to vary quite a lot.
I personally recommend this perfume as I love the way it smells, but of course everyone is different as we have different skin reactions, oils in our skin etc, so I do recommend popping down to Boots or somewhere and trying out the perfume on your skin before you buy it. I think this is a scent that will suit most women, but if you like very subtle or very strong scents, this may not be the perfume for you. But like I said, go give it a try and see how it works for your skin.
This is a really lovely fragrance - slightly woody and gingery but with a flowery, citrusy after scent. It lasts for a while (but not long enough for me) and mellows out into a sweeter smell. I don't wear to the office but I spray a little bit on anytime I'm off out to anywhere nice
The bottle isn't my favourite, I think the pink makes it look a bit cheap and like it's aimed for the teenage market when instead it's aimed more for the 20-30 age range I believe.
This is normally quite expensive (about £70 for a 90ml bottle at least) but I managed to get 90ml of it for £30 on ebay so keep a look out and you might be able to get something cheap!
I always get compliments whenever I wear it, but remember with perfume - it smells different on everyone. Spray it and then leave it on for a few hours to see how it reacts with your own skin's chemistry as what works for me might not work for you.
I bought then perfume on a whim pretty much. I was in debenhams one day with a voucher, and decided on perfume, and I'd like the advert for this one so bought it. Not the best way to judge a perfume but there you go!
I bought the smallish bottle (50ml I think?) and it was about £40. It may be cheaper elsewhere, but this was debenhams. I normally wouldn't spend this much on a perfume I have to say, but as I had a voucher I thought why not.
I got it home and tried it out, and I have to say I love the smell of it. It's a stronger scent than I would usually wear, but I do like it. It's described as 'woody' and although apparently there are floral tones in it, I have to say they aren't very noticable and it's not overly floral at all.
It lasts all day I found, so it could be described as being value for money as you don't have to keep 'topping it up' during the day. The bottle did last for quite a while, I think mainly due to me not having to use a huge amount to get a lasting scent.
Quite a few friends did compliment me on the perfume, but I have to say that as much as I love it I'm not really prepared to pay £40 for it again, so it's relegated to vouchers, offers and Christmas presents for me.
Elle by YSL is one of my favourite perfumes. I find the fragrance lasts for most of the day, unlike other perfumes I have tried. It is quite a fruity fragrance and quite strong, though not overpowering. It does not need to be applied too liberally, which is handy as it makes the bottle last longer. It has a distinct smell and people have often commented when I wear it asking what perfume I'm wearing. It could be worn as an everyday perfume as well as being ideal for the evening.
The bottle and packaging are an attractive pink and would make a lovely gift for someone. I have bought this perfume a few times and have not tired of its fragrance and enjoy wearing it.
I would recommend this perfume to anyone who likes a fruity smelling, flowery fragrance and one which is long-lasting and doesn't wear off during the day.
A friend bought me this for my birthday last year and I love this perfume. I was given the gift set which I found really appealling as the box was black and pink - very eyecatching and feminine! The bottle itself is elegant and practical. The parfum I have is 30ml and I have found this bottle fits perfectly into my clutch bag. I had never tried a Yves Saint Laurent perfume and I must admit I loved this fragrance from the offset. I do tend to like fragrances that are strong and make a statement and this certainly does this for me. To give you an idea of other perfumes that I like I also wear Gucci Rush and Light Blue.
This fragrance makes me feel special so personally I like to wear it on a 'night out'. I can honestly say that I have never worn this perfume without someone - usually male - asking me what my perfume is! I now wear the body lotion too when I wear this and for me this just adds to the whole 'Elle' experience.
