Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto Eau de Parfum
Advantages: sweet and delicious, bottle design, strength
Disadvantages: staying power, very little character, may be too sweet for some
Manifesto Eau de Parfum is the newest addition to the Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) fragrance collection. Manifesto is described as being 'an attitude, a presence and a tribute to style, beauty and mystery' - spontaneous, passionate and intuitive. At present, a matching body lotion and shower gel is available in the same fragrance.
*Top notes (the initial scent) - blackcurrant, green notes and bergamot
*Heart notes (the body of the scent) - jasmine and lily of the valley
*Base notes (the finishing scent) - tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood and cedarwood
The Manifesto bottle is a stunning, high quality piece. The glass bottle is slender as to replicate a feminine silhouette. It is nipped in a the middle with a purple, faceted gem stone design which looks very fancy and expensive. The tinted perfume is visible through the glass bottle. Gold writting and a gold, textured lid complete the look. An attractive design indeed.

Back in October, my Dad gave me some vouchers to go to Boots and select a suitable fragrance for him to present my Mum with on Christmas Day. He absolutely HATES shopping and knowing how much I love perfume shopping, he thought I would like the pleasure of picking something for Mum. Mum and I have similar tastes in perfume and after trying various perfumes, I returned to Boots a few days later and selected the new YSL perfume - Manifesto. I bought a 30ml bottle and used up a £5.00 off voucher. It was also a points event so I benefited from shopping for my Dad!
Anyway, you may wonder why I am reviewing my Mums gift? Well having sampled this particular perfume several times in various shops over a few months, I was pleased when Mum asked if I wanted the small amount left in her bottle recently - how could I say no! Mum is like my sister - she gets bored of a scent after a while and I usually end up receiving lots of partially used bottles of perfume. I cannot complain as it keeps my collection fresh with new perfumes to try.
Manifesto is a gorgeous scent from the moment I apply it to my skin. I fell in love with it from the first time I tried it and have yet to tire of it. The top notes are deliciously sweet and engaging. The blackcurrant is the predominant note - very authentic, bright with a sharp edge and syrupy sweet. The green notes and bergamot offer a refreshing and citrussy touch but the focus is on the fruity sweetness of the blackcurrant which at times, reminds me of a warm, cosy blackcurrant drink or blackcurrant candy sweets! This obviously won't appeal to all but I really adore the scent.
The sweetness of the top notes are still noticeable on my skin after an hour or so and are joined by the heart notes. I can't say that my nose picks up on the lily of the valley in Manifesto but the jasmine is definitely there - elegant, feminine and with the complimenting sweetness of the blackcurrant, very favourable. After a while, the blackcurrant sweetness is replaced with vanilla and the other notes start to fade around this note.
The dry down of Manifesto EDP is gorgeous! The vanilla plays the leading role and is beautifully sweet, powerdy, sugary and to me, absolutely heavenly though some may find it a little heavy. It is laced with the tonka bean and a lovely woody ensemble which gives the scent depth and richness. I find this combination of notes to be very comforting, soothing and warm. The strength of the base notes is really good at first but the scent starts to fade after a short while and I cannot detect this EDP on my skin after 6hours or so which is disappointing for a premium EDP.
YSL Manifesto will not appeal to all. I find it to be a lovely feminine scent but the sweetness of it will either be appreciated or unappreciated in my opinion. In my eyes, Manifesto would be a little heavy for day to day use but for occasional use for day or evening wear, it would be ideal. Manifesto does have a playful, youthful edge to it but I do not consider it to be a scent that would only appeal to younger wearers. Both my Mum, sister and I like it and our ages vary from 25 to 58!
Manifesto EDP is a scent that I enjoy wearing as it includes a lot of my favourite fragrance notes. I would say that it is very overpriced though as it is quite a simple and not entirely unique scent. It doesn't last as long as one would hope given the high price tag. I like the way the different fragrance notes emerge but there isn't much character to the scent and it is simply a pleasant, easy to wear scent for me. It has similarities to Lancome La Vie Est Belle and also Prada Candy.
Whilst I do love this perfume and can recommend it, I don't think I would pay full price for it if I was buying it for myself.
Thanks for reading :)
