Yves Saint Laurent Nu Eau de Parfum
Advantages: Great strong scent, really spicy and occasionsly woody, long lasting
Disadvantages: Not ideal for day wear like they suggest
I am sure that if you have read my previous reviews then you will know what a large collection of perfumes I have. One that I have recently purchased is a bottle of the Yves Saint Laurent Nu Eau de parfum. This was my airport perfume. I always end up buying perfume with my left over euros; my other half gets some aftershave so at least as he is as bad as me! There are normally some sale items at the airports and I had a good look around and tried a few testers before making my purchase. The Yves Saint Laurent brand is normally quite expensive but this fragrance was really reasonable, even after the changeover from Euro to sterling. Here are my thoughts on the scent.
The Yves Saint Laurent will normally cost you around the £75.00 mark and this is for the 80ml sized bottle. This is really expensive even for me and I don't think I would ever consider paying that price for the scent but whilst in the airport in Cyprus, Larnaca had some great offers and this cost me closer to the £40.00 mark in the airport which I find to be really reasonable. The perfume can be found at a number of departmental stores such as John Lewis and Selfridges, it is not one that you tend to see in high street stores but I have seen it in larger Debenhams stores.
The perfume comes in a dark cardboard box and simply has the Yves Saint Laurent logo and the name of the scent. On the reverse of the packaging is a breakdown of the ingredients that have been used as well as directions for use and further information on the spray.
The bottle is round and really sleek looking, it is black in colour and it simply has a piece that you need to press at the top and this will dispense he perfume. The perfume is described as being a 'sharp, oriental and woody fragrance'. It is also described as being ideal for casual wear but I think that it is better for eveningwear as I find it to be that little bit too heavy. The fragrance, when I first used it was something that I definitely would call on the spicy side, it is more spicy than most of my perfumes, not that this is a bad thing though.
There is a mixture of wild orchid, jasmine, sandalwood, musk and pepper in the perfume so you can see that it is a spicy mixture. The pepper was strong but so was the bottom notes of the sandalwood and musk, two of my favourites in a perfume and I guess this was what attracted me to the scent in the first place. Compared to what I normally wear, I didn't want to wear this as an everyday scent as I found it to be that bit too much and a little heavy for work etc. but as an evening perfume I thought that this worked really well.
When I had put the perfume on, it was really long lasting and it didn't seem to lose any of its power as the night wore on either, I did notice that the spicy tones seemed to come out that little bit more and on the odd occasion I would also notice that there were some woody tones.
4 out of 5 from me on this one
Thank you for reading
