Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) is a fashion and beauty brand. Yves originally worked for Christian Dior before he found his own brand which is still very popular today.
*~Young Sexy Lovely~*
Young Sexy Lovely (we will shorten it to YSL - how original!) was released back in 2007 but isn't part of the current line up of Yves fragrances. This Eau de toilette is available in different variations but I am reviewing is the original YSL EDT
YSL EDT is part of the fresh/flowery fragrance family and is recommended for romantic and day wear. YSL EDT is described as being the 'the new style and attitude of YSL girls'.
Like other designed fragrances, YSL EDT has been created using three sets of fragrance notes which develop in stages.
*Top notes - the initial burst of scent on the skin offers a combination of pear, mandarin and blackcurrant
*Heart notes - the body of the scent is a blend of magnolia, cherry blossom and peach
*Base notes - the last traces of scent to bless the skin include notes such as cedarwood, crystalline musk and amber
The bottle design for YSL EDT is simplistic yet classy in appearance. A fairly flat, rounded edge bottle features an indented love heart in the middle with YSL printed within it. A chunky, transparent lid sits neatly on the bottle. The glass has a pinky/peachy tint to it which allows it to look less plain and more feminine. The bottle is presented in a pretty pink box.

I quite like the Yves Saint Laurent skin care and make up range but find that many of the YSL fragrances are too mature for my personal liking. This was until I discovered Young Sexy Lovely! This fragrance is definitely aimed at younger females - possibly 20s - mid 30s but could be carried off my most women. I am on my second bottle of this EDT and will be buying it for as long as it is stocked online as it is an absolute bargain given the designer name.
I wear perfume daily and have different scents for different occasions. YSL EDT doesn't have the strength to be an evening scent but the recommendation of romantic or day to day wear is spot on. It is just the right strength to be perfect for a refreshing boost to the skin during the warmer months as it is light yet noticeable. YSL EDT is a relaxed, chilled out scent which doesn't try to be anything other than modern and fresh.
So what does Young Sexy Lovely offer my senses? A few sprays is sufficient to scent my skin - anymore causes an overpowering alcohol aroma. The initial spray is pleasing though does appear as high quality as the more expensive YSL fragrances. That being said, it doesn't come through as being cheap or nasty either. The fruity top notes are instantly recognisable and shine through well offering a delicious cocktail of fragrance notes.
The most prominent blend is the mandarin and pear which offers a succulent, juicy sweet infusion with a cool, citrus tone running through it. It is very fresh and fragrant. Others around me can appreciate the vibrancy of the top notes but I get to appreciate the sweet and slightly sharp undertone of blackcurrant by place my nose close up to my skin. This delicious opening scent is short lived and starts to fade away after 30 minutes or so.
The heart of YSL EDT is simple - there is nothing overpowering or complex about it but, in my opinion, that is what makes the scent so appealing to the younger market. The heart flows perfectly to form a fresh and light scent which is blended to perfection. It is quite a bright, airy combination and YSL have chosen the notes well to offer a cool, Summery heart. The cherry blossom is noticeable - fresh and floral. It takes the 'mature' edge of the floral magnolia and lightens. The peach filters through after an hour or so and really does add to the scent and make it more appealing to those who appreciate sweet scents. It has a natural, sweet juicy aroma which compliments the floral notes perfectly and adds a little extra depth to the overall heart.
If you are expecting a full days worth of fragrance from YSL EDT, you will be disappointed. It does last long than most EDTs but of course, doesn't have the staying power of an eau de parfum. The base notes come into play after 4 hours of wear but sit close to the skin and it is often at this point that I choose to enhance the scent with a fresh spray of YSL EDT. The fresh vibrancy of the fruity and floral notes drop and the dry down features a delicate bundle of fragrance notes which offer an almost earthy/woody finishing scent. The musk and amber don't filter through as strongly as I would have liked but the overall scent was impressive enough throughout, I can cut it a little slack at the last hurdle!
Young Sexy Lovely is a pretty, well put together scent which is feminine, fresh and simple throughout. It isn't a statement scent which will leave your skin fragranced for a whole day but it does have a refreshing feel and is a treat to wear during the Spring and Summer. I like to wear this one when out shopping or chilling out in the sun as it isn't too heavy or cloying and is very much worth the price it is offered at.
I can see why this isn't in the line up of regular YSL fragrances - it isn't up to the standard of Elle or Opium but as long as you do not expect too much from it, it is worth purchasing.
Thanks for reading :)
