This hotpoint freezer is certainly a good enough freezer for myself and my family. Not everyone's kitchen allows them to have a stand up freezer and if you have a fitted kitchen with built in worktops you will have no option but to get a fridge and a freezer to go side by side.
The Hotpoint has quite a large 105 litre capacity and the drawers (all 3 of them) include a kind of L-shaped bottom drawer and a larger than normal middle drawer. The freezer is frost free so there is no need to defrost it which saves a lot of hassle. I have seen some comments on other reviews stating that people had problems with the frost free element but I can only speak from my own personal experience and I have not had a single problem.
The middle drawer is huge and this is the first one opened when we go to put away our weekly shop as it seems to swallow an inordinate amount of food! The bottom shaped drawer can cause the occasional problem because of its unusual shape but the trick is if you are freezing a couple of loaves then they tend to fit like a jigsaw puzzle here.
The freezer has a fast freeze button which has certainly come in handy on the odd occasion where a certain person has left the door open !!
Apart from that the freezer does what it says on the tin and certainly hasn't let me down in all the time I have owned it.
This freezer is generally fine for purpose.
It has the drawers: the top one is the shallowest, the middle one is the biggest (both in height and depth), the bottom drawer is 'L' shaped because of the components of the freezer.
I have to say the you can almost fit anything in the middle draw. We fit a 16 pound turkey in one year. With the exception of the bottom drawer, Hotpoint have managed to arrange the electrical parts to give the most drawer space.
The model we have is supposed to be frost free, however is not the case. The top drawer is always freezing over so that you get a bid lump of ice/frost covering the drawer. Therefore I am forever having to defrost the freezer, then I have to use the fast freeze button to get everything back to temperature! It does not take long for the build up of ice to form on the top drawer again. There does not seem to be a leaky seal, which would cause the freezer to over compensate, so I don't know why this keeps happening.
Maybe I have a faulty freezer.
This freezer has a fast freeze button, defrost (with spout at bottom for melted ice), temperature control and high temperature warning light.
Apart from the door issue I am quite happy with this freezer. It is simple to use and has excellent capacity. We also have the matching fridge (RLA30).
