A good, cheap freezer which effectively does the job.

We often had the problem of buying far too much from Iceland and getting home to realise that ti will not all fit in the fridge-freezer. Therefore we had to either throw some of the old stuff away (which isn't ideal) or eat a tonne of it before the rest defrosts. I admit, eating all of that ice cream in one go was pretty fun but we undoubtedly needed another freezer. We therefore went around looking for pretty much the cheapest standalone freezer we could find. We came across this at an independent retailers for a really low price and as we pretty much see all freezers as the same (As long as it freezes food who cares what else it does) we bought it.

We had a massive chest freezer for about 20 years which was even bigger than the supermarket freezers, however this, after its long service, died leaving us with the habit of buying too much food. This dies mean that even with the extra freezer space we got from this new freezer, as the capacity wasn't what we were used to (Only about 1/3 of the storage space) we did struggle occasionally. But the capacity is certainly sufficient for a few months worth of meals which is ideal.

The fact that this freezer opens at the top means that, as many would expect from a freezer of its size, it cannot go under a counter as, obvious, you would not be able to open it. This wasn't a problem for us though as we merely put in in place of our old chest freezer. This is something you should definitely be aware of if considering buying it. Being only accessible from the top means that you do risk food being left at the bottom for years and years though as you could just pile food on top over and over again. I do not even know what half of the things we found at the bottom of the old freezer were. However, chest freezers are more efficient if opened as the (slightly) warmer air inside is what escapes as it it at the top (Warm air rises) instead of on side opening freezers where a mix of all temperatures would escape - although a minor difference it may be worth considering if it is opened frequently.

In terms of noise, I have noticed that it sometimes has periods of time where is likes to be a little noisier than usual, however it still isn't really an issue. Generally the freezer is very quiet and you can hardly hear it. Unless you are intending to, you will not notice its noise in a room.

It comes with a basket which fits inside the freezer, this helps to segregate foods and we use it to store ice creams mainly. As it sits at the top, it is especially helpful if the freezer is still pretty empty as you do not have to reach to the very bottom to reach food.

Well I did try to just cope with my fridge freezer, but I seemed to be going shopping a little bit more than once a month, which is what I prefer to do each time I get paid, just get the monthly freezer shop in.

So I went in search of a nice but cheap chest freezer, I cam across this one on the currys website and decided that this would be good enough and also big enough for what I needed. It comes with a 102 litre capacity, which seemed suitable, and came in a silver colour, I originally wanted white but they did not seem to have it in that colour. The freezer itself cost just £149 which also included free delivery which could take 5-21 working days. As I am home most days this suited me. But they did ring me and arrange a delivery date and a time slot to suit me. It did only take 10 days to arrive so I was also pleased with that.

On delivery I was told not to plug the freezer in for 4 hours due to it being in transit. So after 4 hours I plugged it in, then you need to wait 24 hours to out any food in to make sure that it is cold enough to keep your food frozen.
The freezer comes with a small basket at the top, which I find is good to put open bags into so that they do not spill out. The only thing you have to be careful of is that you do not slide the basket over to the back of the freezer as it can stop it from closing properly, so I usually keep it in the middle then move it when I need to.

As soon as I could use the freezer I went and did a really big shop without having to worry about if the food would fit in, and so far I have bought loads and everything has fit in, and the freezer keeps them frozen really well. The other thing I find is that when you do put food away, you need to make sure that you arrange it properly so you can find things easily, as it has no drawers or anything, so everything seems to go on top of each other.

The lid of the freezer is really easy to open and close with just the use of one hand, the thing I do like is that it has a lock in seal, so once you close it as long as the lid is shut properly the seals shut tight to keep all the cold in the freezer. Even with this it does not effect how easy it is to open, but it keeps your freezer from defrosting and also getting frozen over.

The freezer did come with a plastic spatula which is for if your freezer does need scrapping free from ice, which so far I have not had to use but it is an ideal tool to have just incase. Also it will keep your food frozen for around 24 hours in the event of a power cut, which I can not be sure that this works as so far it has not happened to me.

The freezer varies in noise it is generally quiet but every now and again the noise highers but not too much that it will effect you, I have to have this in my bedroom as I do not have enough room in my kitchen and i never has any effect on me during the night at all, so I would say its great for the noise.

I would recommend this freezer to anyone to buy as its pretty cheap, holds plenty of food, and you can literally fit loads of food in it to. Plus you do not have to worry about your food defrosting if you ever have a power cut.

        I wish I hadn't given it away :(

I apologise to anyone who may have first thought that this review (due to the title) was going to be about boob jobs and increasing my size... it isn't! I mearly meant filling up the freezer!

So this freezer was a brilliant buy for us, at the time we were a family of four, us two adults and a 6yr old and a 3yr old, I bought it second hand and paid £25. Our fridge freezer at the time was mostly fridge with a little freezer so it wasn't really suitable for our needs anymore so that was our main reason for buying a second freezer.
I saw this freezer in a little second hand place not far from where we live, they don't very often have electrical items in but I am glad we happened to pop in the day this chest freezer was there.

At the time we didn't have much space free to have a large chest freezer and I was looking for a normal under counter freezer but this is the same size as one of these, the only difference being is that there is a hinged lid on the top, so it can't go under the counter/worktop. It wasn't much of a problem for us as I put it under the stairs out of the way.
Even though it was second hand, the instruction booklet was inside as was the little basket, it was in brilliant condition and looked pretty much like new, apart from a little dent on the one side.

The instructions told us to put it on for 24 hours empty so that it would reach the right degree of coldness before we were to put food in it. Like I have already said this was a second freezer for us so that didn't bother us at all.

The freezer is nice and spacious inside, allowing plenty of room to really stock up, I found it really useful for buying meat in the reduced sections in the supermarket and freezer the bulk so we had plenty to last us.
There's ample room to store plenty of food, and I found that due to this I needed to go shopping for frozen stuff less often.

There's a handy little basket that sits on the top of the freezer (inside!) and this is great for ice lollies and just bit's like that in general. I do now know that you can buy additional baskets if you so wish. I know this as we have upgraded this chest freezer to a larger one due to the fact we now have two more children and my lovely american style fridge freezer recently broke :(.

So back to the Norfrost chest freezer, this is an A rated appliance and is very quiet when on, it looks good and quite stylish with a raised square type front and sides. We had it in white but it is also available in silver.
It has a 102l capacity making it useful for families. Another brilliant thing is that it will keep food stuff frozen for 24 hours should there be a power cut.
I found this freezer fantastic and in the end we bought an under counter fridge and got rid of our old fridge freezer as the freezer had been made redundant after getting this.
In the 3 years we had it I had no problems with it at all and the only reason I gave it away was because I was given an american type fridge freezer, when this broke down I was on the look out for this particular freezer once again but found the larger capacity model on offer at the same price online so went for that instead.

One last thing to mention... the lid sometimes needs a little lean on to ensure it is closed properly as if it isn't you will get a large build up of ice around the seal.

The retail price of this is £149.99 online, but I was lucky to get a fantastic deal second hand.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Excellent value and frozen storage for those of us on a tight budget or with limited space.

          Good Points

This 'A' rated upright chest freezer has proven to be very reliable and it's compact design is ideal for space saving or narrow cupboards/ limited access.

Having a reasonably large capacity has meant we will recoup the cost of the Freezer in a few freezer refills which is brilliant!

It is very quiet to run and will keep food frozen for up to 24 hours in the event of a power failure. An important consideration with the dreadful power cuts we have all endured with the recent storms and bad weather! I do recommend you allow the full 24 hours to 'set' the temperature before filling with food.

I purchased this freezer whilst it was on special offer. Coupled with the free delivery this made the freezer an absolute bargain, and represented considerable savings of aproximately 50%!

          Bad Points

Build Quality is good but freezer body feels light and quite flimsy when moving. 'A' rated energy cosumption is good for the price but an A+ rating would have scored 10/10 on my part.

The option of a second food tray would have been welcomed to allow easy access and avoid diving into the bottom of the freezer for certain foods.

          Shopping Experience

I was not in a hurry for my Freezer so was happy to wait, and the delivery was faultless with minimum of fuss to my routine, with simple text updates. However, I had to wait approx. 2 weeks after the order was placed and the money taken from my account, which I felt was a bit longer than necessary. It appeared to me as if there was a batch order/payment made to have the stock delivered rather than delivered from stock, but that's just a personal view based on the waiting time. Overall I am very happy with the freezer and have scored my purchase on different criteria.

          Build Quality 9/10
          Design 10/10
          Capacity 9/10
          Energy Consumption 9/10
          Value for Money 10/10
          Overall Rating 9/10
