Advantages: Low cost, good quality
Disadvantages: Not one for families
We were bought this as a Christmas present a few years ago, at that time they were retailing for about £30 each. As far as I can see, this is still an average price.
It is a nice fryer, simple to use -
1. you set the temperature
2. it beeps when it reaches the desired temperature
3. you select the time needed
4. put your food in
5. press start
6. it beeps again when the time is up
The beeping is quite loud and I can hear it from two rooms away.
Cleaning it is quite easy too, even by hand. The unit consists of five pieces - the frying element and control unit, the lid, the oil container, the basket, and the outer casing. The glass viewing window in the lid can also be removed to clean it, by bending back the metal tabs securing it in place.
The lid also has a filtration system in it - this consistes of a white microfibre filter pad and a black carbon filter pad. I have bought replacement filter pads from partmaster for about £4 each (black & white filter supplied together). I have since bought one of these fryers for my mum for her birthday (at her request), and when I ordered new filters, I ordered some for her too and we went halves on the postage.
Capacity wise, it's not huge at 1kg food capacity, 3 litre oil capacity. I wouldn't recommend it for a family, where several portions need to be cooked at once. 2-3 portions of chips is the max you can do in one go, otherwise it will boil over and oil will run down the outside of the outer casing. As there is only the two of us, it's ideal for what we need to cook in it.
The outer casing polishes up nicely, but as it is a chrome finish, please do not use abrasive cleaners as otherwise you will scratch it. The outer casing does not get hot when the fryer is on, which is an important safety feature, but be aware - the lid does get hot.
Summary: An ideal fryer for a single person or a couple.
