the de'longhi fryer is the top of the line when it comes to making chips, i dont think you will find a better quality and cheaper fryer else where. i read a few reviews before buying it, that claimed that it was noisy and slow, fortunately my experience has different. i found that it was time effecient and only took a few minutes compared to my old fryer. i found it easy to remove thelid and drain the oil which helps when u wash it.
it uses little oil so i saved when it came to that expense
sold at a reasonable price, fits well in the kitchen and can also be stored in a cupboard
it is easy to clean and easy to maintain.
produces perfectly crispy chips.
it has a small capacity which can become a problem when entertaining guests.
the viewing pannel can get oil which makes it difficult to see inside
spring loaded lid is a design flaw that could prove dangerous when trying to open
if you are a big fan of perfectly crispy chips then i would recommend it as it is the best on the market. i have only used it a few months and it is good quality so i will be using it for a while
I bought 1 of the De'Longhi fryers a few years ago, before I even had faith in anything like this, and as I am not gadget minded, and usually have to ask somebody how to use things first, I found it a challenge (just to me) I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy it was to use. I didnt need the guide book as it was simple and self explanatory. My fryer had its uses for practically everything that could be fried, so after a few years I decided to invest in yet ANOTHER one. This one uses half the oil that would have been used in some other fryers, hence a saving there alone. The little window on the lid is handy for seeing how golden your chips are becoming, without having to lift the lid. Perfect chips every time, and quick and easy to use. The filters are easy to fit also, and I also was able to use a cheaper version of the filters by buying it in a panel, and cutting it out. There is no "oil" smell in the kitchen, so my clothes dont have that greasy smell on them, and the drain hose is in a good position under the handle area, just be careful when cleaning the appliance, as the oil needs to be warm. Excellent buy, dont know what I did without it.
I hadn't owned a deep fat fryer for years and quite honestly the thought of purchasing another one sent a chill down my spine - mainly beacuse of all the horrid fat that used to stick to the outside of our old machine which took a lifetime to clean off. Anyway, I was in Comet one day and saw this one. The kids love there chips and nagged me for a fryer until one day I gave in.
1800 watts. This one machine is a RotoFry fyer which I believe has a patented basket that rotates at an angle and claims to use only half the amount of oil that other machines use. The nice salesman in Comet also told me that it is easy to clean - 'yeah right' I thought. The food capacity is 1 kg and oil capacity is 1.2 liters. Temperature starts at 150 degrees and heats up to a nice 190 degrees.
So on our first attempt at frying some chips I filled the machine up with 1 litre of oil and waited 8 minutes or so for it to reach the correct temperature. You can tell when the temperature is correct when the green ready light flashees on.. I placed my hand cut chips inthe basket and then off it when rotatating my chips. You can see what's going on in the viewfinder of the fryer - the chips are being dipped in oil periodically which apparently makes them healthier to consume. AFter the chips were cooked it was time to sample them. Their appearence was crispy, golden brown with a non-greasy feel to them. They tasted delicious and my kids loved them.
I expected the smell of oil to linger about the house for a day or so but this fryer has an ordour eater filter which means 'hay presto' there's no nasty niffs! It's pure genuis and works a treat. There's a hose at the back that conviniently lets you drain the oil out, this saves a massive amount of mess all over the kitchen worktops. All removable parts are 100% dishwasher safe.
Needless to say that you can fry alsorts inthis gadget. Fish and chicken taste amazing - far better than buying the frozen packet stuff.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen on this model is a timer which would have been very handy. Perhaps De'Longhi could perhaps consider this for there next model?
Purchsed from Comet for £84.99.
I have long resisted buying a deep fat fryer because I have always thought it was a slippery slope. Once you get one of these in your house, I always imagined that you would end up eating chips for every meal and weighing seventy stone or such like. However, a friend of mine bought one of these for just £53. 99 off Amazon (a saving of around £20-25 off anywhere else she had seen them sold) and highly recommended it to me ~ saying, and I'll quote, "Once you've tasted chips cooked in one of these, you'll never eat oven chips again!"
Well, she invited me and Mrs.Sparky round and she's right they do taste bloomin'good! So much so that Mrs.Sparky was able to twist my arm enough to let her buy one!
This Fryer is pure simplicty to use and only needs about a litre of oil to cook with because of its unique rotating basket; a feature I had neither heard of nor seen before. At first, I thought it was just a gimmick but it does mean this fryer really does cook things better and more evenly than most other conventional fryers and the fact that it uses less oil is an even better selling point. The temperature is easily controlled via a thermostat switch on the front though you may need to play with this at bit at first until you find the right setting for you as I did find sometimes this fryer did cook a little TOO quickly!
The double filter inside reduces the smell of stale grease which is another advantage meaning that just because you have had chips for tea, your house doesn't nessecarily smell like a chip shop! And the outside stays cool to the touch which is an even bigger bonus with a little one and her curious fingers around!
Whilst cooking is going on, you can lower the lid for safety so that oil does not splash everywhere and burn anyone and that too is fine because there is a small window through which you can watch your food cook! This isn't always perfect though as there have been ocassions where this has steamed up meaning you could not see inside but this hasn't happened often!
Cleaning wise, this is also quite a simple operation with the lid detachable so that it doesn't get in the way~ though a word of advice, you should probably let the fryer cool down a bit first before you start!
Has it meant we eat chips more often? Maybe a little bit at the minute but only because it is new and I am sure the novelty will wear off a little shortly. Though another thing this is good for is onion rings and I must say it is much more satisfying making my own rather than the ready-made ones you can buy! Not to mention the Beignets I cooked recently and then there were the homemade fish-cakes.....oh yes, I am sure the novelty will wear off!
This is a great little product that has certainly found a welcome home in my house. It is not perfect ~ the lid can snap back quite quickly sometimes upon opening so you have to be a bit careful ~ but overall I am perfectly happy with it. And I must say, now I have it, I can't help wondering how we ever managed before without one!
