Advantages: Fits on you worksurface with ease and looks stylish

Disadvantages: Strange shape grill and food can sometimes roll off.

I was bought the George Foreman grill in around 2000 by my partner as I think she was getting tired over my lack of concern of the amount of fat in my food. I was a chef for 8 years and although I never wanted my food to taste fatty I did see alot of benefits in using natural juices from foods so was concerned the the griil would leave food dry and tasteless.

The grill is quite and odd shape with sides that curve and is also very shallow, on the model I had which is the smallest one you cannot cook for more than two people. From looking, it appears to work by having a sloping grill and exerting pressure with the lid at the top. The top lid is also part of the grill and emits enough heat to cook the food from above. the main issue I have is there is no facility to adjust the temperature. It 's really hot or nothing at all.

Suprisingly the food that is cooked in it tasted much better than what I expected. The grill cooks chicken and steak without any problems but struggle a little with sausages since the weight of the lid tends to squash them. the amount of fat which you find collecting in the tray is disturbing. When I cooked sandwich steaks in it I had to empty the tray half way through so I do feel much better knowing that it is not in my body!.

I do think it's worth the money though. I've seen them in curry's for £30 for the basic model. I believe it cost nearly £50 when it was bought for me.

Ultimately you can't put a price on your health and if you eat helathy low fat food anyway and then start cooking it in here it's just an extra thing that your body will thank you for.

Summary: You can't put a price on your health but I would recommend that you buy one of the bigger versions.

As above; a price would be good to know here through more recent research. Also, the newer models have a riser of sole plate grids built in towards the sloping part where the oils/fat/grease moves down; sausages and the like can then be put in without fear of them being squashed.

I had one a long time ago. They used to be expensive, how much are they now?
