George Foreman 11761 Grill & Griddle
by Supersenna I spent a month looking for this grill. Finally bumped into it during the closing down of Best Buy. I paid £52.00 for it from £64.00. I love it! I bought a baby Foreman grill while at uni and was using it ever since 2002. Then this year I got bored of making only one bacon sandwich at a time when I moved in with my girlfriend. ... This new grill lets me comfortably cook 4 thick slices of bacon on one side while warming up 4 slices of bread on the grill on a lower heat setting. (I should also point out that when her mother came to stay I was able to use the baby Foreman grill as well, as it never ever ever let me down and still works today.) I'm not sure where they got those tiny bacon and sausages from that they show on the box! Realistically 4 bacons will get on the grill (from cold), and 4 slices of bread on the griddle. I then started to expand my cooking on this new grill, from asparagus, fish, a full English; bacon, tomatos, mushrooms. My new favourite is a bacon and egg muffin. Thanks to the griddle its so easy to shape eggs so that they fit perfectly into a muffin. Even better than McD's! This grill cooks food nicely and lets fat drip nicely, though it doesnt really fall onto the tray, it stays within the elevated grill bits. Its still a long way healthier than cooking in a pan in oil, really lets you taste the food instead of the oil/excess water. It also doesn't quite have the same weight and solid feel of the old baby Foreman, (the name smudged whilst cleaning it). It has been used frequently for the last 3 months and I am happy with it. George Foreman 11761 Grill & Griddle
by Holland1 I've had this George Foreman griddle & grill for about a year, and go through phases of using it daily and then not bothering for a while. I think it depends whether you like fast food which just goes straight into the microwave or oven, or if you prefer to cook from scratch. This device makes it very easy to cook properly, which ... is good if you're trying to be healthy or lose weight. In this respect, you'll find you're frying a lot less food, and you can see the fat being drained into the little drainer pot they give you, which makes you feel better about what you're eating. The grill is split into two sections, each having its own temperature control between 1 and 3. They both have red lights to indicate when they are on, which is useful because sometimes I've turned the wrong side on by mistake, or I've forgotten to turn a side off and the light has reminded me. I tend to cook most things on the number 2 setting, as it's midway so ensures the food is cooked without burning the outside. The left hand side is the griddle which cooks meat, fish and sausages, and you can see the fat draining off the food. The other side is flat, and is for 'frying' vegetables, eggs and so on, but without having to use oil. We do our fried eggs this way as it's much healthier, although you do find if you don't use oil, it does make it harder to clean as it can stick to the surface. The Foreman cooks a wide range of foods, and it comes with a leaflet which gives rough cooking times for different types of meat and vegetables. You will find you'll use this grill more often than most of your other kitchen 'gadgets' and it will reduce your oven use as it's so versatile. When my partner and I first moved into our house we didn't have a cooker for about 3 weeks (long story!) and we found we got by with the Foreman grill (and many takeaways of course!). We've cooked chicken, salmon, vegetables, eggs, sausages and bacon on this grill amongst other things, and it does reduce your cooking time a fair bit. The only thing that puts me off using the Foreman sometimes is the cleaning aspect. It's not really difficult to clean, as long as you don't leave it too long so the food sticks on. I tend to just boil the kettle and pour it over the grill into the sink, then I gently use a scourer to get rid of any stubborn bits. There is a special scourer you can get which is supposed to be gentle on the surface, but I've not had a problem with scratching just using the normal scourers. I guess it's just a case of cleaning it each time whereas with the oven it only gets done once in a blue moon! This device will be a welcome addition to your kitchen, and makes cooking from scratch easier, quicker and healthier. As long as you're willing to keep on top of cleaning it each time you use it, you shouldn't encounter any problems. Read the complete review |

George Foreman 11761 Grill & Griddle
by nasarali These were on offer at Tescos a few month ago, they were going for £50 the problem is that I had only gone in for some milk. A few of my friends have the smaller George that just grills and it does a superb job in grilling chicken by retaining most of the flavour as opposed to doing it on a frying pan. This is supposed to be ... healthier for you too which is a great advantage. I bought this one because it also has a griddle, i can have meat going on the grill whilst cooking eggs and vegetables on the griddle. The box had a picture of George Foreman on it which is enough to frighten anyone on the other hand the instructions were quite good and did contain quite a few suggested recipes. Style wise is looks OK, it may have been better if they used stainless steel for the body but then the price would have been higher. The grill/griddle use a non stick type coating which is supposed to make it easier to clean, but you have to really get in there and the cooking surfaces do not come apart so cleaning has to be done on the appliance itself. Whats great is that you get temperature controls on both the griddle and the grill, these go from one to three, with three being the hottest. So you can be browning onions on the griddle slightly whilst having the grill on full whack for the meat. You do have to get used to cooking everything at an angle instead of flat, which takes a while to get used to but that is only because the oil needs to drain into the drip tray and this was probably the only way to do it. The advantage of the grill is that because it closes in on the meat, it cooks both sides evenly and any fat/oil will dribble out into the drip tray. Overall, if they would spend more money on giving out better utensils with this grill or save money by not giving away that cheap plastic crap, i would have given it 5 stars. The grill / griddle itself cannot be faulted though. Once you've used one of these you don't know what you'd do without one. Every home should have one of these along with an oven. Yuo'd probably use the oven less overall. Read the complete review |
