My brother and I brought this deep fat fryer for my mum in order to make frying Indian pastries less hassle basically, oh and to make chips from time to time. Took ages to find the right one to do the things we wanted it to do. We thought about the the Tefal Actifry but I doubt it would fry anything with a batter on. This Kenwood DF520 seemed perfect so we looked around for a good price and ordered it off Amazon.

This fryer is so simple to use. Put the oil in to minimum or maximum level, I always use the minimum, put the basket in the oil and close the lid, set the temperature by sliding the temperature control across. Wait for the light to go out when the oil has reached its temperature. Open the lid carefully and bring the basket up, put your food items in, lower basket and close lid set timer and wait for the alarm to go off to tell you its done. Bring basket up and open lid and leave it to drain the oil then place on kitchen towel. Simple.
Be careful when bringing the basket up or down with the use of the interlock handle, it can make it fall if you accidentally slide it.
Be careful of opening the lid as steam turns to water and can drip into the hot oil.
Red potatoes are nice for chips and cook perfectly in 6 minutes. It tasted and seem to have less oil than when cooked in a pan. Even Indian items like bhaja (fritters) a puri (fried bread) also do well in the fryer, we had the lid open for this to see that it cooked properly as I didnt feel we could put these items on a timer with the lid shut.
Viewing window - ummmm I do not see much point in having it can not see what is happening due to the steam. Pointless feature.
Odour reduced you can tell when your oil needs changing as it would smell worse. We change the oil after using it 5/6 times.
Easy take apart and clean, I'm sure it would have been even easier if I had a dishwasher to wash it.
Booklet give rough guide how to cook things but seriously do not rely on it, everything you fry is trial and error.
So yeah quite happy with it and the price, so glad we did not go for Tefal Actifry.
