Advantages: Low Fat, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Watch you don't leave it on after timer
I was getting fed up of the smell of the chip pan in my house and coul even start smelling it on my clothes. So out shopping one ay I came across the Tefal Actifry. One tablespoon of oil to make chips, so it won me over. 1 spoonful of oil is enough for 1kg of chips
I bought one from Comet for £120 on offer. But is also selling in Amazon for £130.
So once home the deep fat fryer was thrown in the bin and replaced with this. It is a bit bulkier so takes up more room on your worktop but because you don't have oil in it you can easily store it away in a cupboard until you need to use it.
With the actifry you also get a cookbook full of recipes that you can cook in your Actifry. It has many things like Madagascan Beef, Sausage Cassoulet, Sweet and Sour Pork any much more. It is all cooked in the Actifry so it's low in fat, which is great especially if you're watching what you're eating.
The Actifry itself - It has a clear plastic lid, this is so you can watch what's cooking. It's not very deep like a chip pan so it's easy to see what's going on. It's not very noisy either so no more shouting over chips frying. There is a lid on this as well so no more oil marks up your walls.
It has a timer so no need to stand watching it, you can go off and do other things until it beeps. One thing I will warn you though, it doesn't switch itself off when the timer goes so don't leave it for long after the timer sounds as there it could possibly over-heat.
Inside is non-stick so when serving the food it's not all stuck to the pan, slides out very well. It also means that it's easier to clean once you've used it.
How it works - inside the Actifry there is a paddle, which moves round inside, this is to push the food round like it's stirring it, cooking it like a frying pan. This prevents the food from burning and cook it all as the food is turning round as it's pushed. Because it's quite shallow it only needs a minimal amount of oil as it's like it vaporises the oil to help cook the food.
Other Features;
Automatic cover opening/closing
Cover, basket and paddle can be removed and are all dishwasher-safe
1kg food capacity
Power: 1400 W
It's definately worth the money. The chips taste just as good if not better and the other meals made in this are also delicious.
