My husband got us the Actifry when we just got married. I didn't feel I needed it at the time, but now I am glad he bought it. It really does what it says, 'deep frying' things with very minimal oil. As we are trying to be more healthy, this low fat fryer helps us with the cooking immensely. It consists of a pan with a paddle that moves slowly as some fan blows the oil around and probably atomizing it while it does to help the food cook. I don't make a lot of fries/chips at home as what Tefal advertises this fryer for. But I use this to fry a lot of sausages and unbreaded chickens using Asian recipes. It works a wonder as I always get the perfect fried sausages and chickens using this device. The outside ends up crispy and the inside cooks perfectly. To get the same effect with chicken and sausages I would have to fry them first and put them into the oven which wastes more time and energy. What I like the most is when I fry anything with the tablespoon of oil, when it's done you can see the oil just sits in the bottom, so it makes me feel good eating the food that doesn't taste greasy but definitely tastes fried. You get a cook book with this, so you can play around with many different recipes. The only downside is probably you cannot fry breaded food. I tried this and the fan just blew the breadcrumbs all over. Actifry is not cheap, but I think it's a good investment for your health. We've had it for over 2 years, and it's still running perfectly. I have never had any problem with it so I think it's a good long term investment.
