The Tefal Visialis Deep Fat Fryer is a good looking peice of kitchenware. Its striking white and orange colouring is fresh and clean looking. The name "Visialis" comes from the fact that there is a clear glass panel set in the lid through which you can see the food frying. You can, though, as this window immediately steams up once the food is immersed in the fat. It was a very good temperature guide, and a red light shows until the fat reaches the required heat. This model has a lift out bowl, for ease of emptying and cleaning, and a very easily removable filter. I haven't as yet been able to work out a way to remove the lid and therefore have much difficulty in keeping the appliance clean. The lid also does not fully open, which I find makes it difficult to get the food in and out of the fryer, especially getting it out when I want to give it a good shake to get rid of excess oil. The lid stays at approximately 45-55 degrees - just enough clearance to get the basket in and out. The fryer itself works very well, heating quickly and safely, and the filter effectively reduces the cooking smells. The basket may also be too small for family frying, although it's a perfect size for just the two of us. All in all not a bad fryer - but I will be choosing a different model next time.
