Chip shop chips that are not cold when you get home
Member Name: cheshirecat64
Advantages: Great temperature control
Disadvantages: Changing the oil can be messy
With every one tightening their belts and looking for savings to the family budget a deep fat frier is one way of enjoying the chip shop taste without the expense...and they are not cold when you get home!!!! And they dont just cook chips.
We purchased the Tesco deep fat fryer with our vouchers and for the cost were pleasently suprised, its not professional quality but for the home setting perfectly acceptable. The fryer makes great fried food, great chips, good onion rings and doughnuts are great. The temperature control is good allowing for even cooking and food cooked all the way through without burning the outside. The unit is quick to reach cooking temperature and maintains it.
The draw backs are few the basket size is a little small for frying fresh fish fillets they catch at the end., however the basket will do a family size quanity of chips. The temperature control allows for good crispy chips... start them at 130 to cook them then take them out and increase the temperature to 190 and refry. Perfect crispy chips with a good deep colour. Better than the chip shop!!!
I would have liked an on off switch on the unit but for safety you have to turn it off at the wall. The trough is easy to clean but getting the oil out can be a little messy, a funnel or lip on the trough would help. The outer body cleans easily with soap and water.
If you enjoy the occasional fried treat and are sick of soggy tasteless oven chips this frier is a great alternative to the dangerous chip pan or an expensive chip shop. The chips are good and it cooks more that just chips. Well worth the cost and investment
Summary: Great alternative to the chip shop
