Advantages: Range of low cost funds

Disadvantages: None really

Baillie Gifford are one of several Scottish investment houses worth a look.

They offer a range of investment trusts through a reasonably priced ISA, or a low cost savings scheme. Which you should choose - if either - obviously depends on your investment objectives and tax position.

I have invested for the last few years in Scottish Mortgage and Trust. This is a very large international generalist fund which has about 60% in the UK and the rest spread around the world. Unusually for an IT it also invests in foreign government bonds when these are thought worthwhile. Performance has been generally solid, and slightly above the sector average with relatively low management charges. It might be suitable as a core holding for a broad portfolio. It has a relatively low yield which may be useful if you pay higher rate tax and don't want to hold it in a PEP or ISA.

BG has always been reliable in administering my holdings with statements accurate and timely. Annual reports of teh trusts are also quite readable, although these are technically down to the directors and not to BG.

I really think you should think about adding a opinion, not just the companys profile, how about INV rates, and what kind of trust did you yourself set-up, also how helpfull was the company?
