I am writing this review in response to the only other Deloitte review on this site so far, "Believe the Stereotype!!! (Deloitte & Touche)" - it has been rated not useful and basically has a major unexplained prejudice against the profession and doesn't really refer to Deloitte!!! I would appreciate if you would rate the usefulness of this review in your true opinion and feel free to leave any suitable comments.

In keeping with the other review's focus, I will be considering employment at Deloitte rather than the service they offer to clients - mainly because I have been through their recruitment procedure and researched the firm but have never used their services.

Firstly, Deloitte is a professional services firm and it is not just accountancy - they offer a range of services and therefore a range of opportunities -including Audit, Consulting, Corporate Finance, and Tax.

Secondly, the general role of accountancy has changed over recent times and therefore the stereotype that accountancy is dull can't simply be assumed to be applicable.

It seems to be the case that Deloitte do expect full commitment from their employees, and so they should given the level of support that they provide. Whilst it is not a typical '9-5' job (you will need to work unpaid overtime) it does offer a very decent core salary and many other benefits upon joining, e.g. free BUPA cover and 25 days holiday (with the option to buy more!) to name a couple. Also, they pay for your professional exams which is a major plus!

From speaking to a range of existing employees it seems that you will need to be hard-working but your efforts will not go unnoticed. Deloitte is an industry leader with the ability to encourage individual development within the firm allowing for genuine prospects.

BUT IS IT BORING? Deloitte? Surely an inanimate firm cannot have the ability to be boring. I assume therefore the previous review meant the roles within, what was incorrectly addressed as 'accountancy'. For each individual role, I do not know if they are boring? Personally I think Business Recovery sounds actually quite exciting!! So what is the truth of the matter? Yes, some if not all roles will have at least some mundane tasks which quite simply have to get done, for instance, Audit requires a lot of 'ticking and bashing' which is time consuming. However, it seems that the culture at Deloitte is to get it done (to the highest standard) and aim for a work life balance!

So, what does attract people to Deloitte?
For myself, and other graduates, there are many reasons. I'd say my three main reasons are as follows...

Deloitte need your skills to be successful and therefore genuinely care about individual development. To get career coaching from a major play in the industry is invaluable to your own success.

The pay and benefits package is very competitive and you will be hard pushed to beat it!

The general focus on a work-life balance seems to be a genuine concern. If employees are worked to death they won't perform - and Deloitte recognise this.

Overall, I'd say Deloitte is far from the boring stereotype that arose from small accountancy firms and/or roles with their traditional book keeping tasks! It seems that they recognise employees' needs and endeavour to provide for them. In return, they require a high level of commitment and willingness to work.

Summary: Deloitte appears to be a brilliant company to work for with few disadvantages and many benefits!
