Advantages: freephone client service, highly efficient, great investment returns (though past performance should not neccessarily be used as a guide to the future!)

Disadvantages: website can be slow, but with freephone customer service 24 hours a day this isn't an issue

Invesco are one of the UK's leading fund management houses. I have to confess that I'd never heard of them until my financial adviser recommended them for an investment last year, but having done a bit of homework, they are a huge and highly reputable firm.

My investment is in their European ISA fund - and in just over 6 months i have seen some 75% growth on my lump sum - ahead of many other funds. At one point I was over 125% up on my original sum - fantastic!

However the best features of Invesco apply to whatever product you take out - their customer service. Invesco offer customers a freephone (yep thats right - free!) client service line.

This means that if you want to value your ISA at any point, you just call up, punch your number into their automated system, and it will give you a value straight away. You can then have it faxed to you, or posted - if you get it faxed, you can expect to receive your fax within 2 minutes - something many other firms could learn from.

Invesco's staff are highly professional, and inspire confidence in the firm - again something which doesn't apply to every fund manager. Their written communications and statements are wonderfully clear, giving you exactly the information you need, without have to delve through half a tree of paper.

This excellent level of client service, combined with strong investment performance makes Invesco a firm favourite for any of my future investments - though I would apply a caveat that anyone looking to invest should see an independent financial adviser!

The only let down with Invesco is that their website can be slow on occasion. However you can get round this by setting up a portfolio for free with iii.co.uk!

I agree that Inveco's management charges are not the cheapest (for example they do not meet the governments CAT standard). However I think that you get what you pay for, and provided the returns are above benchmark, then this is a price worth paying.

That said, I do agree that all investors should look at charges, but only in the greater scheme of things - take past performance, volatility, etc into account as well.

Invesco are indeed big, and successful. Great yields and solid customer service have seen them grow significantly.
Your returns should be fairly high, but then you'll also be paying over 1% charges plus other managment fees.

Without detracting from Invesco's I would strongly advise those wishing to invest through a large (and wealthy) firm, to first check out The Motley Fool UK Investment Workbook - or their site at fool.co.uk - its very rewarding and pleasantly enlightening (No, I don't work for them!)
