Mini Paper Shredder
by thriftygiftyisme
=Mini Paper Shredder=
Although I have an electric shredder, there are occasions when they over heat or as in the past have packed up on me, so in between times I brought a mini paper shredder for emergency use.
=Paperwork=
We seem to have a ton of paperwork with our personal details on whether that is bank ... statements, post or even receipts, as although when you pay by card you get a receipt some of your card numbers have been replaced by stars, these digits are not the same on all machines so if you had a build up of receipts someone with time could actually work out your personal details.
=Price and availability=
These can be purchased from a variety of retailers from Staples, Ryman's, even Better ware and can be anything from £5 to £12. I brought mine about 2 years ago from Ryman's and paid £5 for it.
=Mini Shredder=
This is basically a small box, with a lid and a plastic handle in the matching colour (my lid is a black plastic lid).
=Dimensions=
The unit is about 35cm in length and around 15cm in depth.
=Paper=
The box says you can put up to 5 sheets of A4 paper in at one time, but turning the handle with 5 pieces of paper in was like trying to move a mountain, but when reduced to 3 pieces this worked perfectly.
=Storage=
I would estimate that the unit hold about 30 pieces of shredded paper, but you need to allow about 1in space at the top, otherwise it jams up the paper and you need then to try to get small pieces of paper out of the sharp blades.
=Ideal as a Spare=
Whilst this is environmentally friendly in terms of no electricity, it does take time to do the shredding, but for a spare it is a perfect item to have.
=Shredded paper=
The paper is about 3mm in width when it has been shredded and is the length of the original piece of paper.
=Disposal=
I give mine to my daughters friend at school as they use it for bedding for their hamsters. It can be disposed of within the rubbish.
=Boxed=
The shredder comes with its own box, so it is handy to store away safely between uses
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this shredder, it is a must for everyone, but shop around for the prices. Read the complete review |

Kitchen Craft Chocolate Fondue Set
by thriftygiftyisme
=Kitchen Craft Chocolate Fondue Set=
The Chocolate Fondue set takes up less room than a Chocolate fountain, and are great fun for all the family.
=Christmas Present=
I received this the Christmas before, so unfortunately do not know how much they are.
=Model=
This is a basic fondue set, you ... place a tea light in the lower chamber, and then light, and in the top part is where you put chocolate in, you add a drop of Baileys to the chocolate, this gives a lovely rich taste or just use chocolate.
=Material=
The fondue is ceramic, and well built as it is sturdy design. I personally melt the chocolate first in a glass bowl over a saucepan of hot water on the hob, as a combination of the thickness of the ceramic and lack of power from 1 tea light, this is not enough to melt the chocolate, so by pre-melting then you are keeping the chocolate warm.
within a few short minutes which was ready to be poured back into the pot.
=Four forks=
Included with the set are four long handled forks the forks are colour coded, whether this is because you can identify which is yours.
Each of the forked has 2 sharp prongs so are at equally as ease with a marshmallow or a peice of fruit. Each fondue fork is colour cordinated so you know which one is yours.
=Washing=
This is very easy to wash, we just pop it in with the normal washing up, and all done.
=Dainty=
This is quite a nice size, it stands about 15cm in height, (6 in) so even storing it is not a probelm, and when your using it, it is not big and bulky,
=Dip Away=
You can dip most things into the fondue, ours is usually marshmallows and fruit, and they are beautiful.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this fondue set, its easy to use, fun for the all the family, and a great way of increasing your fruit intake

Sunncamp Wind Up LED Cow Torch
by thriftygiftyisme
=Sunncamp Wind Up LED Cow Torch=
This is a novelty torch, I brought it for my daughter for her bedroom to hang on her headboard, in case we have a power cut then she has access to a torch.
Although it is in my daughters room, it is me that charges it for her, and we use it when we go for a walk with the dog or take ... it on holiday.
=Novelty=
This is a novelty product and there are other animals such as a pig available in the range. It is about 12cm in length, 2 cm in height and the width I'd say about 5cm.
=Price=
We brought ours from a gift shop at a farm venue and paid £1.50 for it, bargain price
=To Use=
On the one side of the cow is two slide switches, the first is the on/off switch and the second which is lower down and near the rear, this is the switch that locks in the mechanism that you use as a charger.
=Brightness=
The torch has 3 LCD lights, so does have quite a wide range that you can see with and a distance of a good 10 metres in front of you.
=To Charge=
This does not need batteries, it works by the friction of the movement of the hand, it is similar to squeezing a ball in your hand. A 30 second of charging will give about 30 minutes of light.
=Useful=
We already have a selection of the basic styles all around the house and the cars, but this is my daughters as she keeps reminding me.
=We needed it=
About 18 months ago we were staying in a Travel Lodge, I'd just been to the bathroom got back into bed, when I thought that's a funny ringtone on my phone, and looking around the room it was too dark to be morning. It was a fire alarm, I woke my daughter up, I grabbed my glasses, and car keys (glasses so I could see, car keys - so if the worst happened we could get to the next location.
My daughter grabbed her torch as she had insisted on it being on the bedside cabinet, hit the nearest fire escape, only to find that the emergency lights were not working and we had 2 flights of stairs to descend, I was never so glad to see that torch in my life.
(It was a false alarm as someone had burnt toast in the staff room - at 5am that didn't go down well).
Since then, cow is only allowed on holidays as he is special.
=In Conclusion=
For the couple of pound that I paid I was really impressed with the torch, it looks like a squashed cow, but is fun and if it gives children a security element, then it is worth its weight in gold. Read the complete review |
