Argos Value 30m Portable Wireless Doorbell Kit
by annav
I live in a flat that is in a big house, and there are about 7 of these doorbells stuck outside next to the front door, and most are this same one!
It comes in two parts, the ringer, which is battery powered and goes in the house, and the button, which can be screwed on the wall or in our case, blue tacked and sellotaped. You ... also need a battery in the button section. When you press the button it gets sent wirelessly to the ringer which has a simple ding dong electronic doorbell sound. The only trouble is, is that sometimes if a visitor rings a doorbell, it gets intercepted and comes to our ringer, despite it not being the button that was pushed. I often answer the door to the wrong person and my neighbours have the same problem!
If you dont live a block of flats that dont use the same doorbell like this then I can imagine that it works perfectly. Unfortunately, as this door bell came with the flat, I dont really want to pay to replace it, so will have to put up with the door going at the wrong times. Sometimes if Im not expecting anyone I just take the battery out, and then the problem is solved.
It is a plain white colour, not bulky and the button has a softer rubbery touch bit to press. The rest is thick plastic and has been quite hard wearing, with the button outside in all weathers, and it still works! I also have not had to change the battery for 6 months which is a good battery life!
If you dont want to install a traditional bell, or a long drawn out electronic one, then try this! Read the complete review |

A few years ago we replaced our front door so we also decided to replace the doorbell too.
This doorbell was bought ranging from £5-£10, I can't remember the exact price but it wasn't very expensive.
Our previous doorbell was just a basic ding dong sound and all I wanted was the same..
I can't stand them tunes and ... musical songs that seem to last ages whenever it's rung and i'm happy to say this doorbell had a basic ding dong chime as well.
Now this bell has been used for a few years now and has caused no problems.
In that time the batteries have only been replaced once, and it took AA batteries so were easy to find.
The doorbell is nice and loud and can be heard all throughout the house easily.
One press of the doorbell leads to 2 bells. I've recently in the last few months found the doorbell has started to at times get stuck.. this isn't very often but sometimes when someone has pressed the doorbell the button has gone inside and not popped back out. This leads to a small buzzing sound in the house. The first time it happened it did take a good 5 minutes to realise where the buzzing noise was coming from! But now I know I just have to pop back outside and press the button again for the buzzing to stop and it to go back to normal.
I can't really complain about this though as it lasted a few years without ever doing that.. and even now it has only done it about 6-7 times and the doorbell has been rung a lot of times!
There is no settings to change the sound of the doorbell like some others have available, but I am fine with that and prefer the ding dong sound so do not mind.
Being wireless the sound box can be kept within 30m which is also helpful and can be placed wherever you find convenient and you will still be able to hear the bell.
I give the doorbell 5 stars as it is a good price and does the job fine.
Thanks for reading :)

I have one of these doorbells, I didn't buy it myself, it was already adorning my hall wall when I moved in. The doorbell press in situated on the outside of the front door and the part that makes the noise is half way down my hall, around half the length of my house away from the front door. You can have the bell 30m away from the box ... and it should work, I dont have mine that distance away so I can't comment on whether it works as well at that distance.
This doorbell for me is great, the ding dong that it makes (it does it twice) is loud enough for me to hear in most rooms, if I am in the garden however, there is no chance and I rarely remember to take it with me, so it is left in the hall to ding dong to its heart's content. The joys of having a wireless doorbell is so you can take it with you or have it at such a distance from the front door that it can be heard everywhere. As i have said the only place I can't hear it is in the garden but I have my phone with me so I can be contacted should anyone come round and not get an answer from me.
The bell and box is white, the actual button to press is a light grey colour and quite squidgy. I don't think these are too expensive, I have seen ones in Argos for around the £5 mark and don't think that is too bad, makes me wonder whether to buy another doorbell rather than batteries when they run out as they are roughly the same price! I haven't had to change the batteries in my doorbell for a while; I have lived here 3 years and haven't changed them yet, so they last a long time.
There are only two problems with this bell I have found the first is the button can get stuck occasionally, so the bell just continually rings which can be most annoying, you only have to move the button and it is again silent. The second being if you have the bell too far away from the door, when someone rings it, if they can't hear it chime, they tend to keep pressing it as they are not sure if it is working or not. Some bells have a red light that come son when the bell rings so you know it is working even if you didn't hear it, that would be a good idea for this model too I think.
I have no other problems with this bell, it works fine, the tone is not too annoying but loud enough. Long may my batteries live. Read the complete review |
