Mr Potato Brush
by theredrobin
In the summer I visited a local garden centre, in the centre there was a really nice gift shop section which I couldn't help but have a wander around.
I came across a range of products and one was this potato scrubbing brush.
I found it really quirky and cute.
It was big enough to hold comfortably in your hand and ... seemed really novelty with it's googly eyes, smile and green boots.
The back of the potato held the brush which had white bristles and were a good size.
The potato brush was priced at £2.99... though from reading the other reviews posted I saw others got it from Dunelm Mill for £1.99. I guess as I was in a gift shop it was bound to cost more so it is worth looking online on sites like Amazon or Ebay or at Dunelm Mill if you would like to purchase it.
There were other products in the range and I saw some cute looking vegetable peelers too.
In terms of using the brush is really easy to hold and scrub away at with potatoes and other vegetables.
It doesn't take long to clean the vegetables with it and it is easy to store away, due to the feet on the brush I am able to stand it up under the kitchen sink.
In terms of washing it cannot be used in the dishwasher but it is easily washed under soapy water.
The brush is well made and the googly eyes and green boots/feet of the brush are still well in place.
Really this is a novelty item and if you were after a standard brush you can probably find one cheaper, I just thought it was quite a cute little gadget to have in the kitchen. I guess it would also appeal to children if you were trying to get them to help in the kitchen more.
Thanks for reading :)

Mr Potato Brush

Even though both my sister and I have lived away from home for a number of years now Santa must still think that we live at our parents, as every year he leaves us both a stocking there filled with little stocking fillers. I think that Santa will probably continue to do this, especially as Santa aka mum loves buying and wrapping all the ... little gifts for us both!
Our stockings from Santa are always filled with a mixture of gifts, some edible, some useful, some girly & pampering, and some fun & quirky. One of the fun & quirky gifts that we both received this year (haha I forgot to mention that our stockings are each filled with the exact same gifts!) was this little 'Mr Potato Brush'. Actually I guess that this falls under both the fun & quirky and useful categories.
My mum reliably informs me that she purchased these from Dunelm Mill, and that they were £1.99 each.
Mr Potato Brush is basically a potato / vegetable brush. He actually looks a lot like the Mr Potato Head toy for toddlers, maybe he was actually modeled on Mr Potato Head! One half of Mr Potato Brush is the brown potato body as such, with his little googly eyes, his cute little smile and and then his green boots or shoes. The back half of Mr Potato Brush is the brush part. The brush part looks just like a nail brush, it's the same size and shape.
I've used him quite a few times already to scrub and clean potatoes and vegetables, the bristles on the brush seem quite tough and sturdy and they work well at cleaning and scrubbing potatoes in particular. They are synthetic bristles, and they seem to be fairly well made as I scrub potatoes quite hard and none of the bristles have splayed or fallen out at all. He's easy and comfortable to hold in the palm of your hand as well whilst your scrubbing and cleaning potatoes or vegetables, it's a bit like holding a rounded nail brush in your hand.
Mr Potato Head is not dishwasher safe, the packaging advises to hand wash him only in warm soapy water. I put everything in the dishwasher, I generally ignore the hand wash only instructions, I find that so long as you just use a 35 degree wash then the items should be fine. I've put Mr Potato Head in the dishwasher just once so far, on a 35 degree wash, and I'm happy to report that he came out just fine. I'm not sure how well he'd stand up to repeated goes in the dishwasher, I suspect that his googly eyes may be the first casualty of the dishwasher and they may fall out with repeated washings. Normally I do just rinse him in warm soapy water, but I will probably end up putting him the dishwasher once a month just to get him totally clean.
Mr Potato Brush is certainly not an essential item for your kitchen by any means, but he's fun and quirky, he's a handy little item to have, he works well and he's cheap. Prior to getting him I actually used to use a washing up brush to scrub my potatoes (obviously one just kept specifically for this purpose!). Read the complete review |

Mr Potato Brush

We recently had a big Dunelm Mill open up near us and that's where I saw this cute little kitchen gadget, Mr Potato Brush. Its a simple little thing but he's got such a quirky face he appealed to me.
Mr Potato Brush comes with little packaging its just attached to a round card with a plastic cover moulded over the brush, it ... has Mr Potato Brush written one side and the same again on the other but in a foreign language.
Mr Potato Brush is basically a little brush designed for scrubbing potatoes or any veg for that matter, but its designed in the shape of a potato with a cute face on the front, similar to Mr Potato Head the children's game.
He stands just over 3 inches tall and is approximately an inch and a half wide, he has 2 nice green feet so he will stand up on your sink or windowsill if you choose. He's quite realistic looking complete with little dimples in his skin, he also has a little smile and googly eyes. From the front it just looks like a little potato with a face, the brush is on the back of him. This is white in colour and looks just like a nail brush with nice firm bristles.
I find this little brush very handy when it comes to preparing vegetables, I personally don't buy my veg all ready washed, my potatoes come in sacks with half the field still on them, this is not really a problem but when I'm doing baked potatoes its nice to know the skins are really clean, this is where a little brush like this comes in very handy, also when it comes to new potatoes its nice to leave the skin on, a little brush is ideal for cleaning them first.
I've been pleased with my Mr Potato Brush, I must admit I was only drawn to it because of his happy little face but since I've had the brush I have used it virtually every day, the bristles have kept in shape and haven't bent at all, the brush is easy to hold, the rounded shape fitting nicely in my hand. I personally have mine standing on the windowsill at the moment but when summer is here I will store it under the sink to avoid any flies getting on it.
The brush is not suitable for the dishwasher and should be washed using warm soapy water.
I'm not sure if this is aimed at getting children helping in the kitchen or not but in my opinion if you have children and want to encourage them to help out something like this would be ideal. I paid just £1.99 for my Mr Potato Brush and in my opinion that was a good price. Read the complete review |
