Farringdon Cooling Rack
by theredrobin Cooling racks are a great item to have in your kitchen and are especially good for when you make cakes or biscuits. This Farringdon cooling rack is quite simple to use and is of good quality. It is built of meshed wires which allow the cakes/biscuits to cool gently and air is able to circulate more rather than it being ... placed on a plastic tray. The cooling rack has 4 little feet which enable it to stand and so it is raised from the worktop. This would work much better than keeping the cakes or biscuits in the tray or cake tin they they were baked in. Cleaning the cooling rack is pretty straight forward and easy and it can be cleaned with a damp cloth or using washing up liquid with no problems. I'm not sure if it can go in a dishwasher as I never paid attention to the label it came with but it doesn't take me long to clean by hand so it doesn't make much difference to me. I bought my cooling rack from a local home store but i'm sure it would be available to purchase online on sites like amazon/ebay. I managed to get mine for around £3-£4 which is a decent price. I can't say I use mine that much, but it does come in very handy for when you are doing baking. It can be used for a range of foods and not just cakes - basically anything you would want to cool down after baking (that isn't liquid!). I give the cooling rack 5 stars and can't fault it. Basic but it's all you need and at a cheap enough price! Thanks for reading :) (this review may also be found on ciao) Read the complete review |

Farringdon Cooling Rack
by karlsm93 Since getting married I have had a cooling rack that has done me just fine up until recently. With having a very active toddler running around I don't get just as much time to bake, so when I do I like to make scones etc in bulk. When making things in bulk, one cooling rack is simply not enough and so I went looking for a second one ... that wouldn't cost a lot, but do what I needed it to do, and having some money left on an amazon voucher, amazon was my first port of call, where I bought this Farringdon cooling rack which cost me around £4 at the time I purchased. This cooling rack measures 40cm by 25cm so is obviously rectangular in shape but I find it to be a good size for what I need, especially when this is a second cooling rack. Like other cooling racks, this one has four small feet to keep it level on a surface but raised up. When I received this cooking rack, I was quite impressed with the quality of it, especially since the price I paid is less than other cooling racks on the high street and it is as good quality as my other cooling rack which I got on the high street. Although it is mostly the likes of scones, muffins or fairy cakes that I make, I do also make the occasional cake which is obviously much heavier on the cooling rack, but I have found that this rack supports it without a problem and it re emphasises the fact that it has been built out of good quality material. This cooling rack has been used a lot since purchasing it, and it has also been washed a lot since using it, and the quality has remained. It has not tarnished at all, and remains as flat as it was when I first got it. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. Any concerns I had about the quality before I purchased, have been put to rest after many uses. This is a good sized rectangular cooling rack, which is cheaper than the high street. Farringdon Cooling Rack
by pmcds You wouldn't think that something so seemingly simple is actually worth researching before buying, but surprisingly it is! My wife bakes lots of cakes, and we tend to do a lot of cooking involving dishes where you can turf things out that isn't baking as well. Cooling trays are an important part of baking, in particular, and it's handy ... to have something that is practical in many ways, not least how the wires are designed. These Farringdon cooling trays are slickly designed. Meauring approx 40cm by 25cm, they're designed to be able to hold a number of baked goods while supporting the weight with the angular feet allowing for a little bit of give. There's a cross thread of metal mesh that criss crosses all the way along, and this allows for the air to circulate around your baked goods and cool them efficiently to ensure you don't get any mishaps after doing everything else so well. Each of the criss crosses here are of even design, and this is what I mean by the importance of checking out what you're buying. These racks are only £3 or £4 each, if you look for it, but the design means that it's even when you place things on them. I've seen some where they swear by interweaving the latticework they're providing a better way of the air flowing by creating extra gaps underneath your cakes/baked goods once you place them on the racks, but really I find they can leave grooves along the bottom of things. Not so much of an issue really, but this can sometimes have an impact in the more delicate of products. These Farringdon racks are basically smooth along the top, the criss cross pattern not undulating but going straight, and much like a bed of nails is supposed to do, it allows you to spread the weight evenly. These balance the weight just right, no toppling or anything like that, and even if you place something on the edge before the middle, this tends to just sag the edge slightly until the edge is balanced out right. It's a testament to how well designed these are that we have used them countless numbers of times for all manner of baked goods but also as a sort of protective heat mat. Our heat mats were torn and battered and stained and we got rid of them, just before putting on a huge spread where we needed something at least to start with to rest hot dishes on, and although these racks looked flimsy, the careful design and gentle look were hiding such sturdiness that we now regularly use these as heat mats for having just taking something out of the oven. Curiously, it's good for cooling the bottoms of dishes as well! The practical sense is also thought about. The crumblier the cake, the more likely you are to get bits of it stuck where the criss crosses cross. There are plenty of them, and this has with other such products caused issues when it comes to cleaning them. However, this is ridiculously easy to clean. We don't have a dishwasher, (although they are dishwasher safe) and when you wash them it's probably best to brush off what you can first before then washing it in the sink. We find that even icing tends to come off very easily with these, and as long as you don't go scrubbing at them with the wrong thing, these should last an awfully long time. We only have a couple of these, but it's easy to how you could stack plenty on top of each other as well. At a decent price, it's certainly something worth getting, it's value for money in your kitchen if ever I saw it. Recommended. Read the complete review |
