Ring Micro Cyba-Lite LED Keyring
by bilbobaginz This Micro Cyba-Lite LED torch was a great buy for me as not only do I love useful gadgets, but I'm also often out on the town, and for me that means drunkenly dropping things, or fumbling around in the dark for my mobile, wallet, keys, or friends similar belongings. There's nothing better than a light for when all other lights go out, ... Galadriel taught us that a long time ago! The product has two elements: the LED torch its self (with encased battery and on/off button), and the key-ring clip and chain. Both parts are small, light-weight and basic - anyone can use this product! Simply clip the ring to your keys, belt, or wallet and press the button to emit light. The light only emits when the button is pressed down, and you can't press it and walk off, you have to keep your finger down (applying a low amount of continual pressure) for the device to work - This means you won't go leaving it on accidentally in your pocket! Lord Give Us Light! The light is very powerful for its size, but despite this, the low energy consumption of the LED bulb means it lasts for a long time - it doesn't say exactly how long, but I'd guess at at least a few hours. The casing encloses 2 x 3 volt Lithium batteries (included) to give the LED its power supply. In a darkened room you experience the full power of the product, seeing how the light spreads 180 degrees from its origin, hitting each corner of the room with (albeit) increasingly minimal, but defiantly evident shards of light. Although the light seems to penetrate objects in front of it most, the wide 'flood-like' effect it yields is very impressive indeed. The light is plenty strong enough to illuminate the murky underbelly of a compacted crowd in a club (where all light fades, and not even the air-supply is safe to indulge), leading you to your (now trampled) possessions. And...Err, Matter! Although rather thin and dainty, the metal clip is (believe it or not) metal and clamps shut nicely, with minimal chance of the thing slipping off its adjoined key-ring or fabric. The good quality controls continue onto the torch casing which is a hard, resistance, seemingly scratch-proof 3 or 4 piece plastic unit. Grippy, grooved rubber bits line the sides for a better hold, and the button thuds into place neatly and effortlessly when pressed. There are bits of logo: 'Cyba-Lite' blah blah on the casing too but this doesn't really spoil the look or feel of the product. And Lord Give Us Ignorance! Remember, this is a throw-away product - like so many things are these days despite what a destructive concept 'throw-away culture' is. When the battery finally dies, there's no point replacing it, as the product its self probably costs less than the replacement battery - so hey ho, let's just buy another one, what's a little more toxic chemical to the friendly landfill!? And Finally, Rest. I've just had a quick look on amazon, and they're currently selling (new) for just £5.99 down from £6.84 - A bargain in my book. In all seriousness, this is a great product for the price, and for something that's interesting, useful, and nothing short of a technical marvel (if you think back 20 years to how light technology was then), you've just got to give it a go, surely! From me to you, my rating must rest firmly on the 5 star mark. One for all the family! All rights, credits, and the like: Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, etc..... Read the complete review |

Ring Micro Cyba-Lite LED Keyring
by Randal This is another one of those inconspicuous gadgets that initially seems like nothing, but actually does serve a real and very useful purpose. There have been numerous occasions over the years when I've needed some form of light in the evening to either find something that I've dropped, or just to find which way round to put a key in a ... key hole, and this little micro light has perfectly solved those dilemmas. For around £4 from Amazon, what you get is a very small stylish LED light that attaches to your key ring, which is housed in a water resistant casing that is about the size of a large oval shaped thick coin. A small chain comes off the back of the casing and leads to a key ring, allowing you to attach it to other items (eg car key ring) or to attach other things to it. Looking at the casing itself, there is a small rubber covered button in the centre of the top cover, which is matched by another button in the centre of the bottom panel. Interesting, whereas most micro lights only have the one switch, this Cyba-Lite version actually has two, where both switches have a positive firm clicking connection when pressed. What you have with this version is that one switch works as the on switch, whilst the other works as the off switch, which is unusual because often you see these sorts of lights with just the one push switch where you have to keep the switch pressed in order to operate the light. Not a problem, but it does mean that one of your hands is then tied up to operate the light. However, in the case of this Cyba-Lite, you can switch the light on and it stays on because of that positive clicking action, meaning that you then have both hands free to do whatever you need to do. At the front of this device you have the important bit with the LED light, which is what they call an ultra bright LED. To understand what this is about, LEDs are commonly used to provide a bright light source because they only consume a little power. Hence, their small size allows them to be fitted into small lights such as this, and their low power consumption means that they don't need big batteries to be installed in to the device to power them, again ensuring that the overall size of the device can be kept to a minimum. Key with this is the low power consumption of the LED which the manufacturers claim to be able to give up to 12 hours of continuous light from the small battery pack, which should be more than enough to cater for most peoples needs for many months, if not years. However, when the batteries do finally get exhausted (and I have still yet to reach that stage after a year of use) they are changeable (2 x CR2016 flat batteries suffice), meaning that you can continue to have many more years of use from this device, without the need to just throw it away when exhausted. In terms of the light produced, in my opinion this is a light that provides a very decent amount of light, especially credible when you consider how small it is with just the one LED. Forget about trying to find the key hole in a door, this light will light entire paths, large portions of your driveway and most of your room. So when you consider size, price and weight, this micro light is a winner al round. In summary, as I said at the start this is one of those gadgets that initially seems like nothing special, but actually turns out to be something that serves a very real and useful purpose, and for the cheap price and small size, it is something that is totally unobtrusive and there when you need it. Hence, a 5* recommendation Read the complete review |

Ring Cyba-Lite Vega Led Lantern
by claireylulu We recently replaced our lamp we used for camping. We did previously have a wind up lamp which we found noisy and annoying I wasn't a big fan. So we searched online for a lamp that was going to last, was bright and didn't cost the earth. On first looking we found a Varta lamp but it was a bit pricey considering we only use it a couple of ... times a year when we go camping or the electricity has gone off. It was whilst reading on a site we heard there was a very similar lamp to the Varta but was cheaper. On looking at it the lamps look near identical. So we bought the cheaper Ring Cyber-lite Vega LED Lantern. This modern lantern gives you everything you would want in a modern day light. It is a HI-Tech LED lantern which has a main beam, low beam and an emergency flashing mode. It is water resistant making it ideal for camping. The lantern is grey and black. At the bottom is the main component area where the batteries go into and the switch is on. This lantern is battery powered which I know isn't for all campers but works fine for us. It takes three D batteries the great big fat round ones which are very simple to put in. Above is the LED bulb which has a lens round it which can be removed. The lid of the lantern is a black rubbery material giving it a good finish. And above this is a decent sized handle to hold it by comfortable in your hand and it comes with a handy hook which can be attached to the handle to hang it from places. On a night we hung it in the main sitting area of the tent whilst we tidied up. It was great that we could hook it up making it more of a light than a lamp. On first unpacking the lamp I did feel it looked a little on the small side. It measures 18.5cms by 8cms by 8cms. But once we had it out whilst camping it didn't seem to look small and was a good size to have about the tent, ideal for camping. I did take it with me to the toilet block on a night and found it was a perfect size to carry and wasn't too heavy weighing in at 862g which you don't notice when holding it by the handle. The lantern looks robust and its chunky appearance makes you think it can take a bashing or two. The innovative convex reflector is said to improve the light output. This lantern certainly doesn't have any problems when it comes to out putting light! It does say it is an ultra bright lantern with up to 300 lumen. This is definitely true bright isn't a strong enough word to describe it. The lens around the bulb does remove to convert the lantern into a forward area light. We did this on one occasion and found it was too bright and actually hurt your eyes. Personally I don't think there will ever be a time we will need to use it like this. But if you do there is also a built in recessed hanging hook on the base of the lantern so you can hook it up with the lens removed and hang the bulb down. Using the lantern is simple even I manage to use it! There is a black button on the front of the lantern, press it once and you get the high beam, press it again and you get the low beam which is said to be energy saving. If you press and hold the button down for more than three seconds you get the emergency flashing mode. This is something I hope I will never have to use. As for the battery life I can't comment on my own personal experience as I haven't used it long enough. It does state though on high beam it will do three full days or on low beam six full days and on emergency flashing mode ten days. So it is going to last for a long time. We had ours on for about two hours every night whilst camping but only ever used it on low beam. The most important thing is how bright the lantern is. This lantern is very bright especially when you have it on the high beam. Having it in our tent it illuminated the place. You can tell the difference when you have it on low beam but it is still very bright. If you're after a soft lighting then this isn't really your option. It doesn't do soft it is quite a bright white light. I have to admit to reading quite a bit whilst we sat outside on a night. I found the lantern wasn't any good when it was sat on the ground it just seemed to blind me. So we either hung it from the front of the tent or had it sat on a table. The light definitely seems better when it is above you. The Recommended Retail Price of this Ring Cyba-lite Vega is £29.99. I would now be very happy to pay that price for what is an exceptional lantern. Lucky for me I only paid £20 for it from Amazon which I am very pleased about now. This lantern is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone. This review may be posted on other sites under the same user name Read the complete review |
