Sealey Wind Up Lantern
by hotrock4
I have several Sealey torches scattered around the place I tend to buy them whenever I see them cheap enough. I managed to pick this wind up lantern up for £10 from a local car store before a recent camping trip.
The idea is the same as any usual wind up torch except this has extra LED's for extra illumination. I beleive this ... lantern contains 20 LED's with a reflective background to add to the light given out. The torch has three different light settings with either one, two or three blocks of LED's being lit at any one time.
Operation of this torch is very easy with the one button on the side that cycles through the different light settings and also acts as the on/off button. The handle to wind the torch up with folds neatly away in the side of the torch, one minute of winding can give up to 60 minutes of illumination.
The housing of the torch dosen't look all that tough however is made of very durable stuff and has put up with being dropped and knocked about in travel bags. Even the hook to hang the torch from hasn't snapped off yet and proves to be handy whilst in the tent.
Overall a great durable product which saves on the batteries. Would definately recommend to anybody. Read the complete review |

Sealey Aluminium Cree LED Torch
by hotrock4
I usually prefer torches of the wind up variety now but after seeing this torch at my local car shop. I managed to pick this up at around the £13 mark.
The reason this torched appealed to me was the fact it was LED so wouldn't chew through the batteries, also the fact of how bright it was and you can adjust the beam depending ... on your intended use.
Adjusting the beam means you can use it as a narrow beam which will light up a good 100 metres in front of you in the pitch black if not further, or as a wide spot-light which will light up everything immediately in front in bright white light.
The torch beam is adjusted by twisting the head of the torch and this is actually the only disadvantage I have found so far as this also seems to loosen the battery cover causing the torch to go out.
The torch itself is an anadised blue colour with a blue aluminium case. The on/off button is on the rear of the torch. As mentioned the head of the torch twists to adjust the beam and the rear of the torch unscrews and the body of the torch houses three AAA batteries. The bulb end of the torch houses a single 1 watt CREE LED which is claimed to be three times brighter than a normal LED and I would vouch for that. The torch gives out 70 lumens of light and I believe the fact that it is a white light LED accounts for a great deal of this.
Overall a great torch I use it for walking the dog twice daily at around half an hour at a time, and only end up replacing the batteries around once every two months Read the complete review |

Sealey 3 LED Wind Up Torch
by hotrock4
After seeing one of these torches at a local car store I decided that is was worth a shot as it was only priced at £8.
The thing that appealed to me most was the fact that it was wind up and I would never ever have to buy batteries for it. The fact that this offered LED technology was the other reason this appealed to me as ... these are both more reliable and brighter than ordinary bulbs.
1 minutes worth of winding will give you 5-10 minutes use from the torch depending on whether you use the option for one, or three LED's to be illuminated which is great for saving power meaning less winding up.
The torch itself is very bright when using both the one and three LED settings. The on/off button simply needs to be clicked through a cycle to select the different lighting options.
The torch is very robust I have had it six months and managed to drop it many times, used it in the rain, and generally abused it and it still works as well as the day I bought it home.
The general look of the torch is quite stylish being mainly silver with black trimming, a large black on/off button and a black wind up handle.
The handle used to wind the torch up is fold away and again is robustly built and feels like it will stand up to any amount of winding you could throw at it.
Overall I would say this was a great purchase, either for at home, camping, or to keep in the car this torch is a winner everytime. No picking it up and realising the batteries are flat when you most need it. Read the complete review |
