Thermos Everyday 450 Travel Mug
by newby2 ==Thermos Travel Mug== Okay so a little while ago I think I was going over board with trying to save money through reducing my electricity and gas bills. I think this stemmed from getting one of those house display meters which shows you exactly how much power you are using at any one time and calculates how much this is ... costing you. Anyway I realised that the amount I was boiling the kettle each day was ridiculous and costing me a small fortune especially when I was often not making my cup of tea when the kettle had boiled and would often re-boil it to heat it up. Also I would find that I would make myself my tea and then more often than not get side tracked with cleaning something or generally doing anything but not drinking the drink I wanted as it would soon get cold and undrinkable. So with this in mind I thought that if I paid out a few pounds and invested in a Thermos mug I would be able to make up my tea in the Thermos and it would keep it a lovely warm temperature for much longer and it would ensure I was not having to reboil the kettle or keep making myself fresh cups of tea (also saving on sugar and tea bags!). ==Price and Availability== I was looking in my local home ware type store that does everything and anything you can think of and I get a professional discount in there (working for the NHS) and I can across this Thermos travel mug for what I considered a very reasonable price. I had seen the cheaper type of alternative in places such as Poundland but I was sure that they just wouldn't live up to the Thermos name and the brand which has been around for so long and thus would be a waste of money. This 450 Thermos Travel mug was priced at £4.99 p and with my 20% discount I was able to get it for a nice reduction. Although I purchased this mug from my local home ware store the Thermos brand seem to be sold in many a different place from Tesco's to sport shops and the sort. This mug I think must be a rather popular one for commuters and the like as I have seen it stocked in a lot of high street stores. Of course having had a little look online you can probably get it for the cheapest price on there so it is worth having a little look around. ==Look and Style== The size of the Thermos is perfect for a large cup of tea or coffee and it holds a total of 0.45 litres which is great. It is made of stainless steel on the outside and there is an insulation inside the layers of the mug which is made up of foam and works at keeping the drink inside the travel mug warm for up to 2 hours! This gives me plenty of time to make up a brew and then faff about a lot with the housework and still be able to drink my drink. As with all Thermos products this travel mug came with a long guarantee of 5 years which I think shows how well the product is made as the company are sure that it will last at least this long - if not longer - without any problems. The travel mug itself states that it is designed to be taken out of the home although I don't think mine has gone out at all. But if I wanted to take it out (and I probably will be doing so when I have to do the school run for my little man and having a new baby I am sure there won't be any time for my usual 2 cups of coffee!) the mug does fit into most car cup holders which is a very good aspect if I may say so. ==My General Use of the Mug== I find that using the mug is great and it will actually keep the drink at a drinkable temperature for longer than the stated 2 hours. The handle on the side of the mug is made from a chunky black plastic which is shaped to give maximum comfort when holding it and drinking from the mug. The chunky black plastic lid is great for keeping the drink inside and it has never once leaked or been spilt. The lid is easily twisted on and off to fill the mug up with drink and to open the hole to drink from the mug is easy done and I find it rather comfortable to drink from. The mug is easy to clean and although it can't go in the dishwasher I find that a little bit of warm soapy water and a swish around generally cleans it well and the stainless steel outer casing will need a little polish with a tea towel to keep it looking new and fresh. Another good aspect of this mug is that the outer casing of the mug doesn't get really hot and is super safe. I think that when having little ones around and having to make sure that all hot drinks are kept out of there way and up high using one of these mugs means that it tastes the worry out of if the mug is knocked over as you know it won't spill or burn anyone! Perfect. ==My Overall Opinion== All in all I really think that although I am probably a little mad by using a Thermos flask at home to save on electrical power that it was a great decision and this little travel mug more than meets my needs and I am sure will continue to do so for a good many years to come. It is an affordable little item which is made to a high quality and standard and is easy to use and to keep clean. I can't find a single fault with this Thermos Travel Mug. The price is right and the way it suits my needs is wonderful. I don't think that a cheaper one would have been so good at keeping the heat in my cuppa and of course being both spill proof and lasting as well as this one is doing. It has to be a top score of 5 out of 5 stars from me and a super high recommendation! I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Many thanks for taking the time to read. Thermos Everyday 450 Travel Mug
by katykicker In the past year or so I've become something of a coffee lover. I'm not sure if it is because I've cut out cigarettes, most alcohol or most bad foods but I just find myself craving coffee. My husband loves a coffee, and always has, and his workplace gave him a company branded Thermos last year. He started using this every morning and ... seeing him leaving for work made me have a hankering for a coffee and I started spending a small fortune in Costa. As I take my own lunch to work I decided I had better look in to options for taking my own coffee too for the journey to work and that prompted me to pick up this Thermos flask. I'm not entirely sure what I paid now but I believe it to have been around £6.50 in my local Sainsburys. I went in there for shopping and when I spotted this, and because I'd wanted one, I snapped it up. Should you want to buy this after reading my review you can do so for £6.99 from Amazon and from a variety of other stockists. This mug was really simple in appearance on the shelf as it just had a cardboard insert over the handle of the travel mug and this was all the packaging. This travel mug can hold 450ml of liquid (hence the 450 in the title) and this is a more than ample amount for me as I am able to make myself a delicious coffee before work and still have 1/3 on average left when I arrive at work. This mug has a handle on it of course for making it simple to hold and this is a moulded plastic that is simple to hold and doesn't get hot when there is hot coffee in the travel mug. On the occasions when I am in a taxi or getting a lift to work I have found that this goes nicely in a cup holder too which is always good. This mug has a removable lid of course and there is a plastic insert within meaning I can clean up this mug with ease and I don't have to worry about coffee escaping and making everything stained and smelly. I like that this travel mug is in pieces as it means that everything can be kept clean and hygienic with ease. I haven't had any problems with my drink smelling or tasting like plastic either from the plastic insert which is something that I have recently heard of a friend having a problem with. I have actually been using this travel mug on and off for a number of months now. In addition to using it to take coffee to work I have actually used it for a milkshake and for a fruit juice or two as well. It works equally as well as keeping drinks cool than hot and it is very effective in that department. I can make my coffee at approximately 8am and at 10am when I finish my last few mouthfuls it is still warm (just) and this is absolutely brilliant! Potentially the coffee would still be drinkable past this point but I can't stand cold coffee so I'm never willing to chance it and always pour it away if it is older than 2 hours. This mug is really easy to drink out of and there is a hole in the removable lid as well as a piece that slides around to make the hole divided up in to smaller ones, this is ideal as it means that I can tweak the flow. The size of the opening of this travel mug is generous enough for me to get a nice mouthful of coffee but not so much that I spill lots over myself, well, only on the one occasion! I have found that this mug can leak slightly if tipped up quickly or too far, however, that isn't unusual for this type of mug and the only one I've found not to spill is an airtight Thermos flask but then I don't want to carry one of those to work as I merely need something to allow me to drink my coffee on my walk or commute to work. I have been really pleased with the results of using this Thermos travel mug. It has saved me a small fortune now that I almost always avoid Costa coffee on my way to work and it has been very effective for me. This mug keeps drinks hot or cold for long periods of time and as long as I don't tip this up crazy fast it doesn't leak at all. It is worth mentioning that my friend bought one of these for her trip to work and when it arrived it had a seal missing from under the rim and this meant that the coffee just poured out down her work blouse, so should you get this - do check first! Thermos Everyday 450 Travel Mug
by theredrobin I bought my travel mug about a year ago for under £5. Can't remember where from but you will find them around shops easily. It's priced at £6.99 on Amazon. Made from stainless steel and with a big handle and screwable top, the travel mug is exactly what you expect it to be. The handle is big and can be used for both left ... handers and right handers. You just need to screw the lid whichever way your prefer. You can drink through it like a mug without the lid, or place the lid on it and uncover the slit to drink out of it with. The slit (I can't think of what else to call it - it'll come back to me) where the drink comes out of, has a little cover which you push up to open, this is great as it ensures your drink is not spilling around when not in use. I've occasionally dropped the travel mug and found either no spillages to occur or just a little drop to fall out of the mug, so it's not bad. Also the mugs not dented at all or broken from when I dropped it, so it is well made. Bought at under £5, I find it a great thing to have and there are many instances where it can come in handy. I'm not sure exactly how much fluid it can contain but I know it's more that a glass/mug full. It also keeps drinks hot for quite a while, so it's always still drinkable when you come back to it. I've also put cool drinks in it on a hot day and thought it was fine to use, so overall can't complain. It's an ideal product for when on the move, and so i'd recommend buying one as it's bound to come in handy at some point.. Not much else I can think of to say about a travel mug really.
