Brabantia Food Warmer
Advantages: Keep food warm, so cheap to run, just buy cheap tea lights
Disadvantages: Plates get very hot, be careful not to touch!
I own two of these brabantia food warmers, which I got from Tescos for around £25 each a few years ago. I wanted them for when we have friends round and we are making a meal for lots of people, to keep food warm in bowls on the table. These are also great for when we have take aways, we put the rice, etc in bowls on these for people to help themselves, and it keeps them warm whilst we are eating. They use these a lot in Indian restaurants I have been to aswell, they are a great simple way to keep your food from going cold whilst enjoying your meal.
These to do not warm your food up from cold, as they only have 2 small tea lights in the bottom of them, they don't heat your food up, they only keep already warm food warm enough to eat. The good thing about these food warmers is that they don't need plugging in, so there are no wires on your table, you simply light two candles in the holders, in the bottom underneath the grill and this is what keeps your food warm. I use tealight candles as they are so cheap. I didn't think two small candles would really produce much heat, but if you put your hand right above them, it is very hot, enough to burn your hands so you do need to be careful not to touch the plates. You need to pick the food warmer up by the sides, which aren't hot, they don't get hot even when the food warmer is hot. These are easy to grip, and hold easily. It also comes with built in snuffers, so you don't have to blow the candles out yourself.
This brabantia food warmer is stainless steel, and so easy to clean. You just simply wipe it with a damp cloth, once it has cooled down. The actual plate you put your food on, is a black grill, with dark grey sides and handles. It looks really nice, and stylish. They don't look ugly when out on the table when you have guests round. They are such good quality, very well made as mine are in perfect condition after using them for around two years. There are no scratches on them, they look just like new still. They feel so solid and sturdy, and I am sure these will last for years, there isn't really anything to go wrong with them!
They are not too heavy either, easy to carry about in the kitchen. You can't fit much food on them, only really two small bowls, or one plate of food, as they are only around 30cm long, which is why we have two, although when we have lots of people round like at Christmas, we really could do with a few more! However these are adequate for most of the time we use them, I don't have anything bad to say about them! I would definitely recommend these brabantia food warmers, although don't be fooled by the name, they do not warm your food up! I have tried it! They just keep it warm, and are a great little extra to have in your kitchen for dinner parties or take away nights! They don't take up too much room in your cupboards, they just lie flat, and they are reasonably priced too. Just make sure you stock up on candles, as they don't come with any!
Summary: Excellent food warmers, would definately recommend them
