Advantages: Works well, very handy
Disadvantages: Single burner is quite small
I moved into a new house last spring, and as such received several house warming gifts from various friends and family. Without a doubt the most useful of those gifts was a Brabantia Food warmer.
The Brabantia Food Warmer is a handy little object that is used primarily for keeping food warm at the table. It is almost like a little heater that your food can sit on, to help keep it warm.
The Brabantia food warmer that I received is a single burner, but double burner models are also available, which basically are twice the size of the one that I now own, meaning that more food can be kept warm.
The design is simple and works well. It is basically a black, square shaped metal grill constructed from 'heat spreading Aluminium', which sits on a framework with a candle positioned under the grill to supply the heat. At the sides there are handles which stay cool, and allow you to move the food warmer around if required. The candle sits inside a little pot area, and has a 'snuffer attached to it. The snuffer is used to put out the candle when the heat is no longer required, and basically just covers the candles pot up, staving it of air and thus putting out the flame. This is operated from outside the burner, so no need to remove the grill to put out the candle.
It really amazed me how much heat this heater can generate. I thought a little tea-light candle would not really produce much heat, but I was wrong. The surface of the aluminium grill gets really hot, and in the past we have had foil takeaway containers on there and the contents have been almost bubbling due to the heat.
I have used this food warmer dozens of times since receiving it as a gift, mainly for keeping Chinese or Indian takeaway containers warm during a meal, but also recently at a party at our house on boxing day we had plates of warm Indian starters out on the buffet table on the warmer.
The dimensions are roughly:
Height 8 cm
Width 21 cm
Depth 19 cm
This gives me just enough room to put a plate onto, or two foil takeaway containers. I do intend to purchase another one in the future, but will probably go for the double burner to enable me to fit a bit more onto it.
Cleaning is very simple, just a simple wipe down with a damp cloth, once the grill has cooled.
Overall this is highly recommended by me. It is simple to use, and very effective. It sits nice and sturdily on the table, and the handles are safe to use to move it around. As mentioned above I have used it a lot already, and my only slight quibble would be that I could do with a bigger one, especially for when we have guests at our house.
A quick internet search has just shown me that the Brabantia food warmer single burner can be purchased for around £15, and the double burner is around £25, and they are available in white, grey or black. Mine came with 1 tea-light candle supplied
Thanks for reading.
