My other half used to think that it was highly amusing watching me try and use our tin opener, purely because I had great difficulty in using it! I am left handed and for some reason just could not get on with our very basic and cheap model. It became a running joke, so much so that for my birthday this year I received a Culinary Magician Opener! I did not take this as an insult but just as the joke but then when I did come to use it was impressed at just how easy it made the process.


I have often seen the can openers around, they are priced between £5.00 and £7.00 and I am sure that they have come down dramatically in price as they used to be over the £10.00 mark. The Can opener can be found in all sorts of places but my very kind and funny other half got mine in the Argos store. They are priced at £5.00 here and this is the cheapest I have seen them so it is well worth a look if you are thinking of getting one.


The can opener came well packaged and was in a clear fronted box that you could clearly see the product through. There was some basic information on the front of the packaging, the name and brand and on the reverse of the box were some simple instructions on how to use the can opener. The can opener, just from looking is a well thought out and simple design to be able to use.


You will see that the can opener is made of sturdy plastic and is all white in colour; I think I have seen them in other colours as well. I thought it would have a certain amount of weight to it but it was a lot lighter than I thought, so much so that my Nan uses one and she suffers with arthritis so the lightweight material is a big help.


To begin using it, all you need to do is open the two long handles of the can opener and then once the metal wheel has slotted onto (It is a little difficult to describe but it really is a very easy process) you then need to close the handle and begin to turn the piece of plastic that is located at the top of the can opener. The twisting process is really easy and the handle just turns and before you know it you have opened the tin!


The first thing that I noticed about this product was just how safe it was to use, there are no sharp edges left after you have removed any lid and it really does give a can a very flush finish. I was really impressed with this part of the design. What I also noticed was that when using the can opener it was really smooth so cans with any liquid in did not spill out and create a mess in the kitchen.


It does take a while for the can opener to get messy but I try and give it a wipe down after use, you cannot put this can opener in water so I just wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth. There are certainly no signs of wear and tear on my can opener or any signs of the metal going rusty.


In summary, I highly recommend this can opener. It is a great price and is so easy to use. I like that it is lightweight to handle and also really safe in the process.
