Introduction

Can openers are like good neighbours - you don't appreciate how much you need one till it's gone.  My can opener died a few months ago, and instantly my life was turned upside down. Imagine my despair as I could no longer have tuna sandwiches for lunch, and my misery as I was prevented from having a tin of scotch broth for tea.  A quick trip to Argos sorted that out - I bought a Cullinaire Magican can opener, my eating habits were put right and counselling sessions were cancelled.

What is it?

One of those can openers that completely remove the lid from a tin can by a round blade that is powered by a screwing motion.  Mine is white, with a plastic handle and metal blade.

Opinion

I find this product very easy to use, and for review purposes I've tried it with both my left and right hand - it works just as easily with either hand.  To use, open out the handles, put the blade onto the rim of the can, close the handles then start screwing. I've had mine a few months now and haven't noticed the blade starting to dull - it still cuts through the lids like the proverbial hot knife.

I feel like I've bought a good quality product - it cost me £5.99 (from Argos) which at first I thought was a bit expensive, but the more I've used it I'm more and more impressed with its robustness and ability to do its job.  It is very easy to clean, it doesn't have any working parts that are inaccessible with the washing up brush - all I'd recommend is that you dry it straight after washing so that the metal blade won't be prone to rusting.

On a safety note, it does leave a sharp edge on the can once you've removed the lid with the can opener, so watch out when handling the can.

I award the Magican 5 stars - don't be put off by the price as it really is worth it.

Summary: Very good can opener
