Advantages: Easy to use, easy to clean, has lasted years in our house, very reasonably priced
I bought this Culinare MagiCan tin opener a few years ago after breaking my old one after about five or six months of use. I forget the price I paid with it being so long ago, but today one can be picked up in Argos for £4.50 which I think is incredible value considering mine has lasted around 7 years and is still going strong!
The MagiCan tin opener feels sturdy, much more so than others I've previously owned. It's main body is plastic with the metal opening mechanism on display towards the top of the opener. There is a large plastic turner towards the top too which also feel sturdy. It has a chunky feel to it which I really like.
This is the type of tin opener that slides on top of a tin, rather than at the side. The tin slots between the two mechanisms on the opener by pushing the handles apart and placing firmly on top. One of the mechanisms is completely rounded, while the other has sharp indents on it to help remove the lid. Then, once in place, the handles are brought back together and the opener locks around the tin top. It's then ready to go. By using the turner just a few times, the opener carefully moves around the tin and quickly removes the lid. I find that the turner is incredibly easy to turn and not at a struggle at all. I'm not very muscly but I find it really easy! The lid comes off completely and is very easily separated from the opener just by opening the handles - it then just drops out at ease.
This tin opener has never let me down. It's always removed the top of my tins quickly and with no problems. As the lid drops from the opener after use, I don't need to use my hands to remove it so there's the added bonus that they don't end up getting covered in food either. It also removes the lid so carefully that it has never left any sharp parts on the tin - it's all done very smoothly. As for cleaning the opener, I just pop mine in the dishwasher and it's always come out fine. Before getting the dishwasher it was really easy to clean in the sink too.
I have nothing bad to say about this tin opener - if it were to break soon, I would have absolutely no hesitation in replacing it with exactly the same one again. I wouldn't even consider any other types or brands so to me that speaks for itself. I am so glad I came across this one because previous ones we had would rate 1 star in comparison to this. Nothing but the full 5 stars from me!
Thanks for reading :o)
