DeLonghi DNC65 Dehumidifier
Advantages: Removes moisture and dries the washing
Disadvantages: A bigger tank would be handy
De-longhi is an Italian company that make innovative prodcuts for the home. I think they are probably best known for their coffee makers. We bought this de-humidifier a few years ago when we discovered some damp/mould in one of our rooms. I suppose we paniced and bought a product which we thought might help keep the damp/mould at bay. It does the job really well, when we leave it on the landing and it dehumidifies all the rooms upstairs, it withdraws a tank full of moisture from the air every few days when the house is at it's most damp (usually spring and autumn when the temp differs widely from outside and inside and the window glass is cool). It does give off a certain amount of warmth too which is an added bonus especially in the winter. The unit has an oscillating fan to help distribute the air. It contains ionizers to help keep the air clean. It has a handy carry handle as well as an easy to remove filter which can be brushed clean in a few minutes.
~~~~How to use~~~~
It has several settings from gentle to fast. It has an automatic shut off when the tank is full and runs fairly quietly, but at night in a quiet house it can take a little getting used to if your doors are open. There is also an option to attach a tube which drains the water so it can be left in an unoccupied house for ages without the need to empty the tank. We use the dehumidifier all the time and recently we started using it in a our small room to dry washing on an airer. We discovered that it costs only 5p per hour to run which is considerably less than our old tumble drier. We place the airer around the unit and layer the clothes over it, I have a small vent in the ceiling of the room and I hang shirts etc on hangers from there too, the unit has 2 clothes drying settings, normal and eco, we use eco mostly unless I have tons of washing in there. We close the door and very soon have dry washing.
This is something we couldn't really do without now. I am also considering getting another smaller version for our garage now we have my work books and my new treadmill in it. It works really well at removing moisture in general and even better at drying my clothes cheaply. They are available from De-longhi, argos, Amazon, John Lewis and Ebay for around £150-£180.
Summary: A brand and a product that does what it says on the box
