Advantages: Makes life a bit easier, looks more modern, nice smells
Disadvantages: The whole idea behind it doesn't actually work! Refills can be expensive.
After seeing all of the adverts that have been plastered all over the tv, me (the sucker!) finally gave into Dettol and looked up how much this little gadget would be! After looking around I finally found it for just a fiver (£5) in Sainsburys ... "bargin!" I thought! And though there were a few different smells on offer (Cucumber Splash, Green Tea and Ginger) I went for Aloe Vera as it was the only one still on offer. Why pay a tenner if you can spend £5 less! You can also chose a clean, white look or the stainless steel version - what ever fits in with your deco I guess. So any way - here are my experiences with the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System:
Setting up this gadget is childs play and really not very difficult at all. Though you would have laughed at me and my two kids trying to rip of the packaging - not an easy job I can tell you! So I would recommend some kind of scissors or sharp object, if you get what I mean. But after we had finally prised open the box, we found the four batteries (which were included, though I'm not sure if they would be in say a different smell - so your best of checking!) and inserted them into the designated place. Then you remove the sticky label covering the hole the soap will eventually come from and your pretty much there. Last thing to do is of course put it into the holder (or unit, whatever you want to call it!). This is also easy as it basically slots in.
*WARNING* A big tip from me! Think of where you want to put it before you do set it up. Because I didn't, I had the benefit of my kids laughing at me to "go faster" as I rushed up to the bathroom with it squirting soap everywhere! I can tell you ... it is sensitive ... but at least it works! I had great fun cleaning up the carpet on the stairs and hallway afterwards as well ... not!
So 4/5 stars, because although it was me being a bit blonde, I know quite a few people that have had the same problem as me and they could give you some kind of warning! But apart from that it is easy to set up.
Cleaning the unit
Also couldn't be easier. You simply wipe it down (with a baby wipe or wet cloth etc.) and with a bit of elbow grease, most of the sticky marks dissapear. Bear in mind as well, if you have kids that are going to be using this, I do occasionaly find a little pool in front of the unit from where they have taken their hands away too soon.
5/5 stars - easy to clean, what else do you need?!
It's easy too replace the current empty smell, as it is the exact same as how you put in the first one! Just pull of the sticker, insert it into the unit and bobs your uncle! On a price note, it really does vary. I usually re stock when I spot them on offer, otherwise it can get quite expensive! Also, if you have brought the aloe vera one but don't like it, you can swop in a cucumber splash one just as easy - a good plus!
So 4/5 stars! Would of been 5 stars, but the price of the refills lets it down a bit!
They are also very pleasent, though I have never smelt the Green Tea and Ginger, I have used both Aloe Vera and Cucmber Splash, and can say I love them! I had already smelt Aloe Vera (who hasn't!) but Cucumber Splash was something completely new to me - but I loved it! Smells like when you used to go on picnic and you could just smell a hint of the ready to eat, hand made cucmber sandwhichs. All in all - a lovely range of smells!
So 5/5 stars as the ones that I have smelt are really nice and arn't too girly that men don't like washing their hands!
So ... does it work?
The actual sensor is spot on and recognizes that your hand is there almost straight away which makes life just that little easier I can tell you! And I can say that, no joke, just about everyone that comes to my house and uses it loves it! Although for me the novelty has worn off a bit, I will admit for the first few days even I was a bit amazed by it! My kids love it aswell - they have definetly started washing their hands more lol!
So 5/5 stars for this as well! It does what it says on the box! And it also amazes kids and they end up washing their hands more. It's a win-win lol.
Although I have pretty much raved about it so far, this is the bad bit. When you think of the no touch system - you think "Wow you get rid of so many germs with such a nicce little gadget! How family friendly!" and so on - all the same kind of stuff that you. Truth is - you don't! Because whatever germs you would have collected from a soap dispenser handle - you would have washed off with the soap and water anyway. So really and truly - it doesn't kill any germs! On that front, it is a bit of a waste of money!
Because of this I give the actual germ killing a poor 1/5 stars ... not good!
If it is totally rubbish at getting rid of dirt... then why did I rate it 3 stars? you might be thinking... well here is my opinion. Although, like I said above, it's not great at some things - it does make kids enjoy washing their hands more. And anything that encourages kids to be cleaner and so on ... it can't do any harm, can it? It also looks modern and sleek, as well as making washing your hands easier. Instead of pushing down a pump, you just slip your hand underneath and your ready to wash your hands. That's pretty much why it is 3/5 stars overall. Hope I've helped!
