Advantages: makes lovely thick tasty yoghurt
Disadvantages: mine cracked. a bit bulky to store
A few years ago I bought an easiyo yoghurt maker from ideal world (shopping tv ) but now they sell their own brand and don't stock this.
I only know this as i had a problem with it after the 30 day money-back guarantee & was informed they no longer sold easiyo products.
I think I paid about £20 including p&p, the yoghurt maker, storage jars , recipe book and several satchets to start me off.
It's very easy to use ~
boil a kettle
open a sachet
fill to line shown with cold water (in container shown on the right in above picture)
add sachet contents
fill the casing to line shown with boiling water (shown in left hand picture)
put top on & leave for 8 or more hours
(full instructions are given)
I think yoghurt is a bit like wine - some people like plonk & others like the real stuff - to me easiyo makes good, healthy, tasty yoghurt very easily.
the sachets include
greek yoghurt
plain yoghurt
strawberry
apricot
boysenberry
butterscotch
banana
vanilla etc
plus you can buy custard & ice cream sachets
the set comes with a comprehensive recipe book which shows how you can cook with the yoghurt and make cheese.
the consistency is thick
there are apparently no additives
if you follow instructions there are no lumps
the taste is good (unlike a lot of yoghurts in small pots) but it really depends on what you like.
some of the family like one flavour, but not the others, so you can end up with a lot left over
I've tried a variety of the above and my favourite is the Greek one because I like making dips (add chopped cucumber, salt & mint) and it's good as a face mask!
the vanilla one is great with fresh fruit.
the banana is the least favourite in our household.
problems
~
the outer casing cracked, so leaked and was obviously unable to make set yoghurt. I had to be quite nasty with easiyo to finally get a replacement.
the sachets work out around £1.50 each in the shops but are usually only available at selected stores so may be difficult to get hold of.
QVC still sell their products and ideal world sell ones that can be used but it's cheaper to buy in multi-packs & you may end up with some flavours you may not like.
the unit is quite heavy when full, bulky to store and you have to be careful when cleaning the parts.
advantages
~
no electricity - so cheap to use
not at all messy
makes lovely thick yoghurt which is good for you
their cookery book is really good
unless it cracks (!) it will last for years
~
Summary: a good yoghurt maker

- 25/08/08 I am thinking I might try one of these. Nice review. |

- 15/08/08 My mum bought this years ago too but not online. Lakeland still sell the tumblers/kit so its worthwhile if you're into it to consider a new beaker.
Good overall review here. I know from experience that this kit can be make great yogurt and the flavours available are really nice though a little costly. |

- 15/08/08 It's just a fancy flask. You can buy an an ordinary insulated flask and use it the exact same way. |
