GE Slim Line Key Safe
Advantages: durable, hardwearing, secure, easy to use and install
Disadvantages: none to speak of
We first started looking for a key safe as we needed care for a member of the family. The key safe meant that we could have a key outside the house for the carers to let themselves in early in the morning or late at night.
The key safe cost £45 including installation, I haven't checked prices elsewhere so you may be able to find it cheaper if you shop around. Installation, allthough it was included for us was easy. It simply involves screwing the back of the box to the wall on the outside of the house. We have only ever used ours to store the front door key but it claims to be able to fit up to three Yale keys and there is definitely room left with just the one in.
The box is locked with a combination code, this needs to be set before you use it for the first time. To set this remove the front of the box. On the back of this is a number of screws, each with a relating number and each printed with an arrow. There is a code stating which way the arrow should be facing when it's on and which way it should be facing when it's off. For the first use all arrows will be turned to off. To set the code simply use the plastic provided (or a screwdriver) to press the screw in and turn it so the arrow is turned on. The code can be set to any number of digits however for security reasons they recommend between 5 and 7. The code can be entered in any order so long as the right numbers are pressed. Once the code is set the top just slides on and clicks into place.
To open the box you simply key in the code, press down the open switch and remove the front of the box to find the key inside. If you enter the wrong number there is a "clear" switch to clear everything you have entered so far.
All the buttons are firm and durable, they are easy to press and click when they are pressed in so you know it has registered when you enter the number.
The whole box is covered with a black rubber (the description says it is neoprene) and is completely waterproof, this not only serves to make the safe appear more discreet but also protects it from the typical british weather!
We have had our box just over 3 years and even the cover is still very firm showing no signs of wear, the safe itself is still completely secure even after daily use and we have changed the code several times very easily.
Overall I would highly recommend this product, the safe is secure and appears very discreet if seen by someone else and the number buttons are still firm and secure. I cannot think of a single disadvantage.
Summary: excellent security product, I would highly recommend
