I find clocks a great pleasure to look at especially the unique ones you come across on your travels. Just over a year ago I was in Hawkins Bazaar this rather nice joke shop with many types of gadgets rude and childish to admire.
I saw this backwards clock and at first I just thought it looked silly but after viewing the clock I wanted it more and more. The clock itself is a normal clock, it runs the same speed as a normal clock, takes one AA battery and it has a hook on the back to make sure it holds onto the wall.
The difference with this clock is that the whole idea behind it is fun and enjoyable. The clock runs backwards so you have the numbers going in the opposite direction and this is the same with the hands of the clock as well.
The clock is very light in weight so light that if it falls from the wall it bounces because it is made from plastic. There is a nice black rim to the clock and the face of the clock is done with the Hawkins Bazaar logo on the inside.
The clock looks cheap in how it appears and the plastic shield at the front to protect the clock face from the outside is rather cheap and horrible. If you dropped anything heavy onto the face of the clock I would imagine it would crack.
The clock at first is a real pleasure to have in the home because it fools so many people. We all look at a clock in normal mode and you do this even with this clock. You do not even notice the numbers being back to front at all because you look at the hands and work the time out from there.
It took me about a week to get used to the new idea behind the clock. When you look during the night it can throw you at first because you think you are late for work when you are not. Not only that but the clock also does not glow in the dark which I think would be handy.
The red second hand could be done with some sort of mechanism which allows it to glow in the dark but this is not part of the clock features.
When you do get used to the idea behind the clock it appears like any other clock in the house you learn how to read the time backwards very easily. Most people will be shocked to know this item can be brought for £15-£17.50 which is a lot of money for just a simple clock.
If you love to wind up friends and family this item is great because no one on there first viewing gets the time correct. The battery lasts one year then you need to replace it. In terms of when it would suit in the home I think a bedroom more then anywhere else.
The colour, style and make of the clock would not suit a living room in my opinion but it is a joy to look at and amuses me all the time. I also appreciate the fact everything on the clock is backwards from the numbers to the hands going around the opposite direction.
This is a great novelty item but the price might put some people off.
