Ikea Chopping Board Dralla
Advantages: Excellent price and great idea
Disadvantages: Not dishwasher safe
Whenever I visit Ikea, I always end up coming away with items that I had intention of purchasing and on my last visit, I spotted this and as my chopping board was looking a little tired, I ended up purchasing.
A pack of two chopping boards retails for £1.40, although I think I paid a little less than this as it was a while ago. The wasn't any colour choice when I purchased and when I look online, this still seems to be the case, you simply get one line green and one red board. The boards are unique to Ikea but they are only available in store and not online, you can however check stock at you local store so at least you wont have a wasted journey if you were going just to buy these.
The boards is made from flexible polyethylene plastic and measure approximately 37cm x 29cm x 2mm so they really are quite thin and flexible. They are easy to pick up and manoeuvre around the kitchen, and because they are quite thin, they take up very little space in my kitchen cupboard.
The main thing I like about the chopping boards is that they are flexible which means when transferring my food from the chopping board into the pan, I just fold two ends of the board up, tip and then the items I have been chopping end up in the pan and not on the floor, worktop etc, (which is what always happened before, regardless of how careful I was).
It is worth noting that the boards are not dishwasher safe which I do find a bit of a pain, it also concerns me because especially if I am cutting meat on my board, I do like want to make sure is has been cleaned properly. Having said that, my other half is a chef so he has adapted a colour scheme to say what should be chopped on what board and we just use the green one for vegetables, fruit etc and the red one for meat.
Since purchasing, I have also brought another pack for my daughter, she uses on the boards when playing with her Play-Doh, I find it gives my tables a little bit of extra protection when she is rolling or cutting.
Because the boards are made from quite flexible plastic, I do find that they get marked quite easy, especially when compared to a wooden or glass board, but I wouldn't say any more than other plastic boards I have owned. Plus, I don't leave these out on display so I am not too concerned about this aspect.
Overall, for the price, I really recommend these but because they cannot be put into the dishwasher, I would give these 4 out of 5 stars
Thanks for reading.
Summary: A good value chopping board
