Ikea Chopping Board Dralla
by europe-chick I always buy Ikea chopping boards as they are so cheap and I replace them so often. I'm a bit of a hygene fanatic and so I replace my chopping boards every 3 months with new ones. I firmly believe that there is bacteria lurking in the crevices on the old ones, my husband thinks this is a bit over the top, but he goes along anyway. I ... normally buy the 'legitim' chopping boards, they used to come in a pack of two, one large and one small for just 99 pence, now you just get the one large for 99 pence. I know that this is still ludicrously cheap, but I felt a bit cheated by this so I decided to try these instead the 'dralla' chopping boards. You get a pack of two very large, very flexible chopping boards for just £1.99. Both chopping boards are the same size 37cm x 29cm, and they are each just 2mm thick. You get one red and one green in the pack, I've kept the red one for meat and the green one for fruit and veg, see my hygene ocd coming out here! They do say to hand wash only, but I put them in the dishwasher all the time on a heavy duty 65 wash and they are still in perfect shape, they haven't been warped or ruined at all in the dishwasher. I love these chopping boards, I don't know I ever lived without flexible chopping boards before. They make it just so easy to pour all of your chopped vegetables into the pan, or to transfer all of your vegetable peelings into the bin. Previously half of the veg would be all over the kitchen counter as I tried to scrape it into the pan, and half of the vegetable peelings would be all over the floor as I tried to scrape them into the bin. Now I just flex my chopping board and pour things in without spilling a drop. I'm definately going to make these my chopping baords of choice every 3 months in Ikea now. Read the complete review |

Ikea Chopping Board Dralla
by headsore Ikea do a good range of very cheap bendy plastic chopping boards which come in a pack of two for the tiny price of 99p, so you can choose which colour you want for the particular colour scheme you have in your kitcen - we have blue and yellow. Be warned though, these boards are extremely thin and you have to take a bit of care ... if your knife is very sharp as blades are easily prone to marking (or even going right through) the plastic. They are easy to wash and keep clean though they are not suitable for use in a dishwasher. What we particularly love about these boards is the fact that they bend easily, so for example, if you have been chopping a pile of onions (or any other vegetable you fancy) and you want to pop them into the pan, you don't have to scoop the onion up with your fingers, simply take the board to the pan, bend it, and you can literally pour your onion into the vessel without fear of it spilling the contents onto the floor. They are a decent size at 37cm 29cm and two mm thick (so quite thin). Be very careful if you are taking near to a hot pan though as they easily melt and get warped - one of ours is badly warped on the sides as it touched the hot frying pan and there is no way of repairing this. Our little lad also uses these when he plays with his play dough and it is simple and easy to just bend it when he's finished and ppour back into his playdough bucket. Really useful and really recommended. This review is also published on Ciao under name of sorehead. Read the complete review |

Ikea Chopping Board Dralla
by baby-cakes Whenever I visit Ikea I am an absolute nightmare for just impulse buying and always leave with random things that I don't even really need! Last time I went I ended up coming home with a rubber ice cube maker in the shape of hearts (why, really??), some plastic coloured cups and straws, and a chopping board - none of which I needed or ... thought I would use! My Grandma always used to tell me I should use a chopping board so maybe that was in the back of my mind when randomly putting one in my trolley, but what made it worse was that the colour choices were red or green, neither of which go with my kitchen!! The Ikea dralla chopping board comes in a pack of two, I chose the red and it wasn't until I returned home I realised there was a white one underneath, I had presumed it was the back of the board. What did surprise me about the chopping boards was that rather than being an actual board they are a kind of flexible material which is in fact polyethylene plastic. The chopping boards are extremely thin, just 2mm thick which means they can be stored literally anywhere and take up no room at all. The size of the dralla board is 37cm long and 29cm wide so they are a decent size and ensures there is enough room for whatever you are chopping up! One thing I really like about these chopping boards is that once you have chopped up the food it is so easy to transfer it to your pans as they bend so there is no spillage when transferring the food over. Really this is where the positives end for me, as they are so thin that almost every knife mark shows up after use which really freaks me out because it shows where germs can be festering, even after a really good clean. The chopping boards are handwash only so I always made sure I washed well in hot soapy water and then with an antibacterial spray also. I would say that I used the chopping board for just a few weeks and then I just threw it away as the knife marks made it look really tatty and I was just paranoid about germs so it wasn't really worth it to keep using it. I had given the second chopping board to my mum and she decided to use it underneath her toaster and toastie maker to catch the crumbs and melted cheese and she has had much more use than I got! The Ikea Dralla chopping boards are priced at just £1.99 for the pair which isn't bad really, even if just using a few times. Thank you for reading my review. Read the complete review |
