Advantages: Looks great in your kitchen
Disadvantages: doesnt last very long
I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets, in fact my kitchen is full of items I have bought and only used once or even worse have never even been taken out of the packaging.
I believed all would be different with the Flavour Shaker, my boyfriend convinced me it would be worth having one as we cook alot at home. Why not just get a decent pestle and mortor? I thought but no a Flavour Shaker it had to be. We waited a while before buying one as I wasnt going to fork out £20 for a glorified plastic tub and spoon. I eventually splashed out last Xmas when we found them for £15 in Debenhams.
The first time we used it was good fun, filling the container with oil, herbs and mustard created a lovely dressing for a salad one evening, you have to use quite a bit of force when shaking the the Flavour Shaker - I leave that to my boyfriend as I get a sore arm otherwise - and be careful when opening it afterwards to avoid the contents spilling everwhere.
The Flavour Shaker is constructed from tough plastic with a well placed rubber grip around the outside, without this I can imagine millions of people with broken kitchen windows after managing to hurl the thing accidently across the room! It comes apart easily for cleaning and sits neatly on the countertop after use looking quite funky and colourful. You can also buy metal ones now but they're a good £10 dearer so I dont see the point in forking out.
I've lost my enthusiam for the Flavour Shaker recently as the rubber seal which keeps the contents in place has already started to perish after less than a years infrequent use. This now means we cant make full use of it and it's soon going to join the ranks of all the other kitchen bits and bobs under the sink which will never see the light of day again but we cant be arsed to throw away, sorry Jamie!
I wouldnt bother with this and would buy a well made pestle and mortor instead unless you want a pretty plastic ornament for your kitchen! I think this one needs a bit of work still Jamie.
Summary: Forget this and buy a pestle and mortor instead
