There are certain celebrity chefs who seem to put their name to a product regardless of whether it is any good or not. It would seem though that Jamie Oliver doesn't fall into that category as all of the products we've bought recently endorsed by him seem to be good, well thought out ideas that solve problems or enhance the cooking experience. The latest product we have found ourselves drawn to are the Jamie Oliver Magnetic Measuring Spoons.

What Was The Problem

Now you may have guessed from my previous reviews that my wife and I do enjoy cooking. We like to try different recipes and Jen really enjoys baking, however each recipe seems to call for different units of measure. As a result we had six or seven different spoons scattered in a drawer that would need hunting out every time we wanted to either cook or bake something.

The Solution

We had been looking for something to combine all of these spoons for ages, a simple way of keeping them all together and that is when we came across the Jamie Oliver Magnetic Measuring Spoons in John Lewis. They are a set of three plastic spoons with heads at both ends providing different units of measure from a pinch to 1 tablespoon. Unlike the other products of a similar type we had seen these are held together by magnets within the spoon, rather than a loop of plastic meaning they stick together and stay together in the drawer.

Are They Any Good

To say they are good would be an understatement, as they have quickly become one of our most used gadgets within the Kitchen. Everything we cook at weekends is done from scratch and that is where these really do prove to be a god send. They are easy to find, easy to use and just as easy to clean up when you are finished. The magnets mean they take up very little space in the drawer or can even be attached to the fridge. Within the set you get 3 spoons with six heads consisting of:

Spoon 1 - 1 Tablespoon (15ml) & half Teaspoon (2.5ml)

Spoon 2 - 1 Dessertspoon (10ml) & quarter Teaspoon (1.25ml)

Spoon 3 - 1 Teaspoon (5ml) & a pinch (0.6ml)

With cleanly marked quantities on the black spoons in white writing it makes these incredibly easy to use. All of the spoons are designed with narrower ends in order to get into spice jars, making measuring out quantities much easier. Once you've finished preparing your dish these are easy to wash by hand and should you be lucky enough are also dishwasher safe.

I think it would be fair to say that both my wife and I would happily recommend the Jamie Oliver Magnetic Measuring Spoons. For £6 they are great value and will really provide a more effective method of measuring out quantities whilst cooking. We have managed to get rid of at least 6 other items from one of our drawers to replace it with this rather nifty item that we would both happily recommend to anyone.
