Advantages: Removes most bobbles, cheap
Disadvantages: bit noisy and doesn't come with batteries
The first time I heard about Bobble Off from JML was on Sunday afternoon, and I soon went to buy one on Monday because I had a voucher for Argos where they sell this item for just £5.86.
It was recommended to me by the sales assistant in a shop where I bought a rather expensive jumper and we were discussing how it can be used to keep the jumper in good shape, especially under the arms and on other friction areas. I'm usually, rightly or wrongly, very sceptical about JML products as I have been caught out before.
Bobble off as I mentioned before is available for just £5.86 in argos, and takes two AA batteries although these are not supplied with the product. It comes in a box that's about the same size as a bag of 1kg of flour and is quite light. The gadget itself is about the size of a travel iron and is quite light. For some reason this was bigger than I was expecting. Setting it up was really very easy, just take off the battery cover, stick a couple of AA batteries in and off you go.
There are two settings on the product either long or short, and this limits how much bobble length will be removed. I haven't tried it on longer materials as I don't own any, but I would use with caution. It basically works by "shaving"... I think I can see some well sealed blades whirring away behind the guard... the bobbles off your clothes and it REALLY does make them look new again. Once you've shaved them off they go into a little emptying section, which I filled once with just one jumper. When comparing the two sides of the top you could really tell which had been done, and my other half even got so excited by it that he wanted a go! It's very easy and safe to use, even if you go over your fingers as I did. You simply move is around as quickly as you would an iron and it just picks up all the little bits, although sometimes tiny, tiny bobbles won't be long enough to be caught in the system.
It is quite time consuming to do this but you can do it while watching the TV or something and it doesn't seem as bad when you consider you are giving your clothes a new lease of life! The only downside I would say is that it does occasionally miss small bobbles, can be quite loud and that it doesn't come with batteries. All in all though, very small investment so spruce up old clothes.
Summary: very good little gadget or even a unique gift.
