Advantages: works well on some packaging
Disadvantages: doesn't work with all packaging
I brought this when it was new on the market. It seemed like a really good idea and I thought it would be a great way to save money and space when storing opened food packaging.
It is a great little thing and it does do the job well. To use it you just press the clamp down on the packing of the food you want to seal in and gently but firmly guide it along untill you have made a seal. It is very simple and once you have practiced a couple of times, it becomes very easy to use.
I had a few problems with this. The first was that it has a magnet to keep it on the fridge but the weight of the unit seemed to pull it down sometimes and I would find it on the floor. The second is that it goes through an awful lot of batteries, which means it isn't as cheap as it would appear, although this will of course depend on how often you use it, we use ours quite a bit, but I wouldn't consider it to be above average.
The other problem, which is the biggest, is that it doesn't always seal every type of packaging and can take a while on thicker materials. You have to be really careful not to move it too quickly or you just have to go back and start again. Sometimes, I haven't been able to seal a product and have had to use another method.
Having said all of these things it is still great for sealing things like a block of cheese or a packet of crisps. We don't really use ours much now, but when we do it's very handy and I can see it would be very good for someone with limited kitchen space.
Summary: ok, but you'll need other ways to store foods.
