Kenwood CO606 Can Opener
Advantages: A great gadget
I'm on my second one of these, not because it's rubbish but because it's great! the first one I had was about 17 years ago and I loved it from the moment I had it. It hasn't changed much except that the original one was white and this one is silver.
I now have a silver one so it looks good in the kitchen along with my other appliances. It's no good keeping this in the cupboard and getting it out when you want to use it! you must have it out on the work top ready to use.
What is it?
This is an automatic tin opener and bottle opener, it also has a knife sharpener on the back.
What does it do?
It does what it says on the box! opens tins!! you basically pull up the black handle and put the part of the tin you want opening into the part with the rotating blades, then as you pull the handle down it grips the tin and when you push the handle down further it rotates and undoes the tin! I love this because there's no effort at all and it works every time, it turns around until it's opened and then when it's finished it holds it until you lift up the handle (you must have your hand holding the tin at this point or you'll have a lovely mess as the machine doesn't hold it while the handle is up).
For the bottle opener it's just a metal part in the centre at the front, which when you place the bottle in you can flip it and the lid comes off easily, the only thing is to make sure that it's not fizzy when you do it because you have to tilt the bottle slightly and so if it's been shaken sometimes it comes out.
The knife sharpener is also very good, place your knife in the slot at the back and then press the same handle down as the tin opener and it shapens the knife that is in there.
It can be dangerous for young children to use as because of the way it cuts the lids are always extremely sharp, the lids stick to the magnet at the top but then it has to be taken off and placed in the bin.
These cost around about £15 but are well worth it and last for years.
For those who have weaker wrists or hands this is perfect for undoing those pesky tins! I find the manual one's so so difficult to do and when we go to a caravan I really miss my tin opener! For the elderly these are also great as there is no effort involved and once they've mastered the art of doing it they'll be really pleased.
What more is there to say - it's a great tin opener and really easy to use, I use mine every day I haven't found a tin that doesn't fit or it didn't work for.
Summary: A brilliant tin opener - used daily
