Kitchen Craft Finger Guard, Carded
My eyesight isn't very good and therefore I am not always very good with handling sharp objects especially knives. This gadget is a flexible and grippy finger guard designed to protect your fingers while cutting and slicing. The design is very simple. It has a silicon frame which is sort of 'V' shaped. On one side there is a hard protective plastic coating on the side facing outwards towards the knife. The back of it has two small finger pockets to stick your fingers into.
I think it is supposed to be held with your thumb in one finger glove and the first finger in the other. This should be suitable for people with either big or small hands.
You can then grip onto whatever you want to cut and the raised bumps on the silicon should stop food from moving about too much.
I haven't really used this much, but it isn't the fault of the gadget. It is ok for cutting thin fruit such as bananas, cucumbers and tomatoes but I am not too sure about larger items like an orange for example, as the silicon will only stretch so far. This only protects the fingers nearest to the knife so you need to remember not to go crazy with your knife.
You can get this for £5.32 + free delivery on the Amazon site. I think this is too much for such a basic gadget.
== Summary and recommendation ==
I give this 4 stars. The price on Amazon is too high I feel but apart from that this is a handy gadget for anyone who is not comfortable using knives and who may be visually impaired or have a slight problem with their hands.
I have super sharpe ceramic knives and seemed to slice my finger even time i used them as much as i blamed the knifes i do admit i can be clumsy and easily distracted with my children running around the house or kitchen when i am working. Anyways i wanted to try the kitchen craft finger guard to see if it would help me use my knifes safely and save my poor finger tips.
I purchased the Craft finger guard tool from a kleeneze catalogue that was posted through my door. The Craft finger guard cost £6.99. You can also purchased this tool from Amazon uk slightly cheaper.
Craft finger guard comes in a clear plastic wrap backed onto cardboard, the cardboard has a picture diagram showing how to use the guard correctly.
Craft finger guard is a tool or gadget for the kitchen. You can use it when chopping vegetables, fruit or blocks of cheese. It is a plastic with bumpy grips on the inside and silicone on the outer to help give good grip on the guard. This is green and white in colour, shaped like a U and can flex to fit whatever food you need to cut.
The green bumps on the inside are for gripping the food for chopping, these are very good and stop the food slipping out of the tool when using the knife, even slimy foods like cucumber stay put.
I like the silicon out shell, even with wet hands you can still have a good grip on the tool.
To use the Craft finger guard place the guard over the top of the food, there are two small buckets behind the guard made of silicon these are for one finger and thumb make of silicon also and when i have my finger and thumb in them they are tucked away behind the guard when in use.
I have used the Craft finger guard many times but only for big jobs like preparing veg for pots of soup or cutting fruit for trifle or fruit cocktail etc i don't bother taking it out the drawer for smaller quick tasks like cutting a few slice of cheese for my sandwich etc. It is easy to clean in hot water and can be placed in the dishwasher also. Because of the awkward shape the tool doesn't fit in my drawer with my cutlery tray so i leave it hanging out of my utensils jar. This is a useful tool but does take a few uses to get used to it, as i found it awkward to use on my first attempt.
I have not cut my fingers when using the Craft finger guard and does its job well.
