Klip Fresh Spaghetti Foodsaver
Advantages: dishwasher safe, clear plastic to see the contents
Disadvantages: just a basic container, not fancy enough to display
I've had a couple of these Klip Fresh Spaghetti Holders that I bought from Tesco for a couple of years now. I use one container for its originally designed purpose - to store spaghetti in. And I use the other container for a quirky yet useful purpose - to store my cupcake cases in.
I can't remember how much I paid for these, but do I know that it wouldn't have been much, probably in the region of £3 to £4 each. As I said mine are a couple of years old now, and they're still in really good condition, they've lasted really well.
They are essentially just tall clear plastic food storage containers, primarily designed to hold spaghetti due to their tall thin shape. Obviously though like I've done you could find other uses for them as well. Due to their shape I'm not sure how many other uses there would be, but I've found one so there may well be others too.
I like that the containers are a clear plastic which then enables me to see through and see at a glance how much spaghetti I have left, or in the case of my cupcake cases which designs and colours I have, or need to replace. The lids on the containers are clear too, and they fit really snuggly and securely onto the containers themselves with three plastic klip locks on each lid, there's also a rubber seal in the lids which helps to achieve the snug and secure fit. I'm sure that over time the two lids and the two containers have been interchanged, and I've had no problems at all, both lids fit either container perfectly.
These are actually dishwasher safe, freezer safe, and microwave safe. I do put mine in the dishwasher from time to time and I've had no problems doing so. I can honestly say that I've not used them in either the freezer or the microwave. I actually have no idea whatsoever why you would even need to put a spaghetti holder in the freezer! And I certainly can't even imagine it fitting in the microwave!
These are quite tall containers at 28cm and so they don't fit on most cupboard shelves, I'm lucky in that I have a tall cupboard above my built in microwave and oven and so that's where I store these. I guess that you could always lay them down in a drawer or on a shelf if you didn't have cupboard space tall enough to stand them, or maybe even just have them out on the worktop. I personally wouldn't have them out on display on the worktop as they are not fancy holders at all, they are just basic plastic storage containers, but then again I'm fussy about what I'll have out on display in my kitchen!
So the container that I store spaghetti in: I buy the 500g packets of spaghetti and the contents of these will easily fit in with room to spare. I normally then buy another packet when I've got about 100g or so of the old packet left. I can then fit the contents of the new packet in the container along with the leftovers from the last packet.
And the container that I store my cupcake cases in; it's the perfect width to store cupcake cases, they all just stack inside one another and slot into the spaghetti holder, and actually look quite funky with all the colours and designs stacked up and on show. The only slight drawback is that if I want to use one of the colours or designs that's at the bottom of the spaghetti holder then I have to empty all the others out first to get the ones at the bottom. I don't mind though as it's a much better storage system than I had before, which actually was all the cupcake cases just flung untidily into a drawer!
