I have to admit I love Lakeland, it is probably my favourite high street shop, which is as much a sign that I'm getting old as it is of the quality of the products.
Around 8 months ago I was perusing the store and came across the jarkey, it seemed like a lovely little gift for my Nan's Christmas stocking so I bought her one. It seemed like a great idea, it helps people open jars with minimum fuss and effort, it requires you to place protruding edge of the jar key under the lid of your jar, place a little bit of pressure on the jarkey until you hear the pop of the vacuum sealed element of the jar lid, you can now simply open the lid with minimal effort. It is simple, easy to use and doesn't require much strength.
The premise is that the hard bit of opening a jar is that initial movement to release the vacuum of pressure once that's done you can simply unscrew the lid.
The Jarkey is about 10cm long is made of fairly dense plastic and easily fits in a drawer, it is only available from Lakeland shops or their online store for the price of £3.99.
After a while my Nan's constant raving about this product forced us to buy our own one, generally I feel comfortable opening jars, but when you have wet hands there is always a difficulty, with the jarkey that is gone and if my partner is alone she now has a simple solution to opening the toughest jars.
I can't think of any negatives with this product it does a job, it really doesn't take up much space, is cheap, well made and reliable, there are no safety issues, i've not experienced any difficulties opening jars and my Nan raves about it, she is the real target audience for a product like this and for me it is very useful, for her it is incredibly handy, living on her own it gives her more ability to do things she previously needed help with and allows her to maintain her independence and quality of life without relying too heavily on others.
This is another winner from the Lakeland stable, it feels very comfortable in your hand, looks good, has proven reliable and easy to use and is good value, I have recommended it to friends and family as has my Nan and would definitely recommend it to you, it's a nice thing to have rather than a necessity but it can be absolutely brilliant particularly for people with arthritis or weak hands and wrists.
