I moved house last year and when moving in, I got a few gifts mainly for the kitchen but one thing I got was this Mastrad Multi Grater Mandoline. Now, I hadn't really heard of one of these before so wasn't really sure what to do with it but now ever since I have had this, I have seen chefs using it all of the time on shows when slicing vegetables. I don't always use this all of the time as it can be a bit of a hassle if I get in late and want something easier to use but to impress guests this can have some great results.
The mandoline sits on a slant but it all folds back up in the box and has a stand that folds in. It is black in colour and the blades are all silver stainless steel. The heads are all in a bag and you can attach them when you need to use them. At first, I found this quite complicated to understand but if you look at the pictures you will get the gist right away. The mandoline weighs 907g in the box but it is actually really light when you hold it and all in all it actually looks like a really classy piece for the kitchen.
MULTI GRATER MANDOLINE
Now, to begin with it is the whole setting up the mandoline, what you need to do at first is get a clean surface and then get a bowl so you can put all of your food into it when done. The mandoline is dishwasher safe and it has a high resistant ABS body as well as folding non slip feet. The mandoline has a handle and a push button and seven blades for different results. This can be used standing or it can be used over a bowl which ever you prefer, I personally like to stand it on its feet as I feel I have better control this way.
The blades are all good in their own way but obviously there are some you will find more useful than others. There is a single flat blade which is for slicing which you can use to slice literally anything you want. You also have the chip cutter which is self explanatory really in the name. There is then the cutter for julienne vegetables which I don't really use as much but it is a nice idea. The grater is there to be used for parmesan cheese and chocolate and whatever else you want to great. Also, there is a greater with 6mm diameter holes and a grater with 2.5mm holes.
There is a corrugated blade also which is for adding a bit of texture to cucumbers, potatoes etc which is interesting and there is adjustment available for thickness between 3mm and 7mm. Now, to clean the mandoline is very easy as all of the blades are detachable so they can easily be put in for washing and they are easy to clean. I use this mainly for the chip cutter and for slicing vegetables as when serving food it just makes things look that bit better. It adds something to the plate with presenting food and I like that.
When using this, it is easy enough to use, you just need to slide the blade up and down the device and it will slide all that you need. I find that keeping the original box is the best way to store this item as that way you can keep all of the blades safe in the one box and keep your mandoline here until next use. I know I don't always use this mandoline but it is still one of those things that are handy to have in the kitchen. Some people may not find any use for an item like this but to me it does help.
I would buy this for someone definitely and I am glad that I have this mandolin. It is good, you just have to be careful when using it with the sharp blades. If you are putting this over a bowl, it is also a good idea as this way the food all collects into a bowl to make life a lot easier, especially if you are preparing a salad and are going to put everything into a bowl in the end. It is a great device for all ages, if you are a keen cook and know you like to have vegetables then this is a worthwhile buy.
This mandoline can be purchased in places like Comet, Amazon also sell this at the moment for £22.47 which is more than I paid but if you look around online you can get it cheap.
