Advantages: Does a great job

Disadvantages: Not that keen on Silver

It may well be nice down in good old London but up here in Edinburgh although it is very warm it's that muggy humid warm that just knocks you for six. There is virtually no cool air and everyone is just knackered with the heat, luckily though I forked out around £30 last year for one of these tower fans. In normal hot conditions there is usually a bit of a breeze, but when like it is today you are required to provide your own breeze then I do believe I have found the perfect solution.

The unit is of a silver colour which is maybe the only criticism I have as it stands a good couple of feet high and 90% of this height is the area where that lovely cooling breeze comes from. There is a grill effect on the front of the tower and the fans, which spin to produce the breeze, are neatly concealed within the roughly 6 inch square tower. The base on which it all stands is perhaps a 3 inch wider square than that of the main unit. There are a series of buttons on the top which control all aspects of the fan, but if even the breeze from this powerful fan has not rejuvenated you enough to get up and change the settings then no problem................a small compact and very efficient remote control is provided and it has the exact same functionality as the main control panel on the top of the tower.

1. Power button
2. Speed button
3. M1 program button
4. M2 program button
5. Oscillating button
6. Timer button

1. The main Power button is simply that, it switches the unit off and on.

2. The speed button controls the speed at which the fan will operate; there are 3 settings high medium and low. I have generally found that the medium setting is adequate although there are obvious times like today when full whack is required.

3. The M1 program button is a button, which switches the tower fan into a specific mode. It alternates the speed of the fan and the oscillating frequency to provide a varied effect.

4. Similar to M1 with different variants

5. This button simply switches the oscillation on or off. I think I have a preference for the oscillation being on especially of full power, since in this way there is the occasional relief from the quite strong blast coming from the tower.

6. The timer button again is self-explanatory being that it will keep the unit switched on for 3 set time periods 1hr 2hr or 4hrs.

It is currently blasting a fairly powerful stream of cool air my way every so often when the oscillation reaches my direction. This has the benefit of both cooling me and other areas of the room. For my £30 quid I'm well chuffed especially today when at one point I thought the heat was going to make me pass out. It is perhaps a bit more bulky than the standard circular fans, but I think it is a better fan all round compared to the more traditional type. It is certainly getting a good work out today and performing very well as it has always done. I would not go as far to say that it is a noisy fan but it does have a perpetual whirring sound going on, which after a few minutes is blanked out. All in all a great fan. Some sites in their wisdom have categorised this under air conditioner, it is NOT such a device it is a simply efficient tower fan, which does a great job.

Summary: An efficient little unit providing a nice cool breeze

I've had the fan on only one day this year - I must be in the cold part of Edinburgh ;-)
