Advantages: easy to use, affordable
Disadvantages: one piece each time
==== Basic Features =====
The product is made of plastic and mainly includes 3 parts. The main bucket of the shredder is transparent. Its size is about 255 x 110 x 110mm. This part is quite light. There are four small rubber pads underneath at each of corner, which helps to the bucket slipping from the table when shredding. The top part containing the shredder mechanism. It has four different colour available, which are blue, orange, pink and black and I chose the orange one. This part is a bit heavier than the bucket. There is a safety cap at a side on a metal bar. The third part is a handle, which also has different colour to match the top lid.
==== Preparations for shredding =====
Before shredding, the separated parts have to been assembled together. This process could not be easier. First keep the bucket clean. Second, put the top lid on. Third, take off the safety cap from the metal bar. Finally, put the handle on the metal bar. Then it will be ready for shredding.
==== Pros ======
1.Affordable: As this is manual paper shredder, the price is quite cheap. I purchased it a few months ago. It cost me only 2.99 pounds.
2.Easy to use: This product is ever easy to use. After assembly, you put paper on the top and leave a bit in the shredding part, then use handle to finish shredding.
3.The dimension after destroyed is good. After destroyed, each piece of paper is shredded into 3mm strips. However, if you still feel this is not safe enough, you can try to mix all the strips before you throw them into the bin bag.
4.Easy to store: As the shredder is only 255mm x 11mm x 11mm, it can be easily stored into a drawer. It is good for family use.
===== Cons =======
1.Limitation of shredding: It only works for normal paper without staples, not for hard paper and cards. It only works fine when you shred on piece of paper each time. I tried to put two pieces, I had to use more efforts and it didn't work well.
2.Capacity of bucket: The shredder is easy to store as it has relatively small-size bucket. This is also a cons of this product. As it is small, you have to empty it frequently when shredding. Usually I have to empty it every 5 – 6 pieces of A4 paper I shredded. If I don't empty it in time, some strips will go into the top lid and block shredding.
3.Manual work: As indicated in the name, it is a manual paper shredder, so some efforts shall be paid out. Staples and clippers have to be removed before shredding.
4.Not suitable for office: It is mentioned on the package box, this shredder is “fit for office, school or family use”. However, I can't image an office or school with a huge amount of files required to be shredded will use this small manual shredder. In my opinion, it is only suitable for family use.
As I do not have many files to be shredded, I do like this shredder and enjoy using it. Anyway, thanks for reading, rating and commenting this review.
Summary: good for family use

- 06/08/07 My Dad bought a shredder and hasnt even used it yet, although Ive taken to getting rid of old documents (anyone else keep phone bills for 3 years or more?) and using them as packing when I post boxes to my OH. Saved me a fortune in packing materials over the last few months. |
