Advantages: Holds papers, interesting to look at.
Disadvantages: Not really an essential item, expensive.
For a long time now I have had this strange little device sat on my desk just under the monitor. It is something my husband brought home with him one evening as he thought it would help me with my review writing.
The device in question is a 'page up' and it can be used for holding upright a sheet of paper or photograph. The piece of paper that you wish to look at, be it a recipe card, user manual or some notes you scribbled for yourself while watching a film, is held securely in the slot. I suppose you could use the 'page up' either way but I have mine with the small side at the front as the paper is gently curved and angled in a way that makes it very easy to read what is written.
I usually only have one sheet of A4 paper or a photograph in my 'page up' but a quick test tells me that it can comfortably hold 18 sheets of A4 paper, any more than that and it starts to get a bit unstable. The 'page up' could be used to neatly store lots important bills, letters and appointments rather than having them all over your desk or kitchen counter.
My 'page up' is almost identical to the one shown in the DooYoo picture but there are many different colours and styles to choose from on the 'page up' website. One that particularly took my fancy has an analogue clock embedded within it. A quick look on amazon.co.uk tells me that I can get another 'page up' for about £10 including postage.
I think the 'page up' is a good little item, but I would not pay nearly £10 for one, it combines a paper weight with a handy way to hold and display important bits of paper, freeing up your hands for typing and mouse clicking. It also makes sure your papers don't get blown or knocked off your desk and it holds them at an angle that is comfortable to view and read from.
All things considered it is just another cool invention that makes you wish you had thought of it first. It is not something that is crucial to have but it frees up a bit of desk space and stops things from going missing and looks nicer than most other document holders.
Thank you for reading.
Summary: A great versatile paper weight.
